STUDENT DAILY BULLETIN

Administration

IMPORTANT:   There will be NO SCHOOL on  FRIDAY, MARCH 11 in 
celebration of  INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!

1.	Attention young ladies of BHS!  “Speak on It” has been postponed 
until March 24, 2005.  The next two meetings are cancelled.  Meetings 
will begin again on the 24th of March at lunch in conference room B.  
See you there.

2.	Berkeley High students and families, please help cheer on the BHS 
World Affairs Challenge team, Saturday, March 12th at San Francisco 
State
University.  This team has been working hard to create this year’s 
topic: Energy and Environment.  Please come to Burke Hall at SFSU, 1600 
Holloway Street, 9am – 11am.  For more information call 841-5420.

3.	Next year there will be two sections of Jazz Lab Band for interested 
musicians.  Mr. Hamilton will add a Jazz Band II class for advanced and
more experienced musicians.  If you are interested in auditioning for 
this class please come on the following days:
Trumpets and Trombones:  Tuesday, March 15th      3:30 pm
Bass, Guitars, Drums, Pianos, and Saxophones:  Thursday, March 17th 
3:30 pm

4.	Math tutors needed first and second period to work one-on-one with 
students in Geometry and Algebra IIB.  Get peer tutoring and community
service credit and help other students succeed!  Talk to Ms. Johnston 
in H201 or Ms. Russ in H202.

5.	There are only 5 clubs signed up for the Freshman Information Night 
on Wednesday, 3/9/05.  Other clubs beside the BSU, BWB, Key Club, 
Tsunami
Relief Group, who are interested to promoting to incoming Freshman, 
please let Ms. McKnight or Ms. Werd know ASAP today.

6.	10th grader:  Don’t forget that you need to take the California High 
School Exit Exam on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16.  You 
have
to pass this test in order to graduate from high school in California. 
You must arrive at the Old Gym on Milvia Street at 7:30 am each day.  
You
should bring number 2 pencils and a photo Id.  Calculators and scratch 
paper are not allowed.  Make sure to get lots of rest before each test 
and
eat a good breakfast.

Clubs
1.	Quiz Bowl practice meets in room C316, today, March 9th.

2.	Latino graduation committee meets at lunch on Thursdays in 
conference room B.  Come and help make graduation special.

3.	The Berkeley High Snowboard Club is planning a trip to Sugar Bowl 
for March 12th.  No experience is necessary!  Just come and have fun.  
Come to
room C2333 anytime to pick up trip forms and info.  Official club 
meetings are every Wednesday at lunch in room C233.

4.	The Berkeley High Student Tech Crew needs new crew members!  Come to 
the meeting in Mr. Winer’s ( A203) at lunch on Tuesday, March 15th.  No 
prior experience is necessary.

5.	Feeling Anger, confused or sad after loosing someone special come to 
a support group Monday at lunch in conference room B.  Bring something 
special that reminds you of the person.  Lunch will be provided.

6.	Attention all CSF members.  New tutoring sheets are now available in 
the College Career Center.  Also, the deadline to turn in tutoring has 
been moved to May 2nd.

Sports
Senior / Junior Section
1.	Seniors-time is running out.  The cap and gown ordering period is 
almost over.  All orders need to be placed by March 25th.  Contact 
Jostens
right away at 1-408-426-6083.

2.	Attention all beautiful and handsome 05’ers:  Do you have a magnetic 
personality and an exuberant talent?  If you do, then we want you to be
our PROM QUEEN and PROM KING.  To find out more about Senior Ball 
Royalty Campaigns rules and requirements, contact Senior Class 
President Hong Doan at <hongdoan05 at yahoo.com>.  Applications are 
available at C400.

3.	Attention Seniors and Juniors: Berkeley High is having a Prom Fair 
on Thursday, March 10th.  The event will take place in the courtyard
after-school from 3:15 to 4:30pm.  There will be 25 early bird specials 
for Senior ball tickets at the price of $45 each;  Senior Ball Royalty
applications, limo services, dresses/tuxedos, hair services, KMEL DJ, 
snacks and refreshments and much more.

4.	College visits:Sign up in the College Center

  Wednesday, March 16th, 9:30 am. - Cal Poly San Luis Obispo- for 
admitted seniors and juniors who are interested in the school.
Thursday, March 17th at 2:20 pm - Prescott College, Arizona


Events/ Performance
1.	The powerhouse BHS Jazz Ensemble, Lab Band and award –winning small 
combos perform at the Berkeley Repertory Theater on Sunday, March 13th 
from 11:30 am – 3:00 pm in a benefit for the BHS music program that 
will help support a DOUBLING in the number of students in the jazz 
program.
Attendees will sip wine, feast on a lunch prepared by Poulet and bid on 
exquisite items at a silent auction.  For two years in a row the Jazz 
Ensemble has been ranked the top high school band nationwide at eh 
Monterey Jazz festival competition.  Tickets are $40 general admission,
$25 12 and under, and $75 for community patrons.  For tickets contact 
Lori Ferguson at 527-8245.

2.	Attention:  Readers!  Voting day for the California Young Reader 
Medal books is almost here. If you have read Of sound mind by Jean 
Ferris, Bronx
masquerade by Nikki Grimes and Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz, you 
are entitled to vote for your favorite.  The authors whose book 
receives the
most votes from high school students in California will win the Young 
Reader Medal in the Young Adult Category.  See Ms. Goldstein-Ericksen 
or
Mrs. Harrison in the library if you would like to participate.  There’s 
still time to read the books if you would like to vote.

3.	Creative Strings Summer Camp announces it’s summer session. 
Violinists, violists and cellist explore improve games, fiddling, blues 
and world styles.  The players will perform a live soundtrack to a 
narrated story, illustrated by their own artwork.  A rich multi-media 
experience,  July 25-29th.

Sales

1.	Do you like sugar? Do you like shiny things?  The Tsunami Relief 
Group is having a bake sale at lunch today, March 9th.  We will also be 
selling
T-shirts, and jewelry.  Come to the courtyard.

2.	Seniors:  Deposit #1 is being collected for the Senior Trip at lunch 
everyday until March 15th.  Deposits are $65.00 and must be paid in 
money
order only!  Make Money orders payable to Distinguished Charters.

3.	Yearbooks are currently on sale for $65.00!  They can be bought in 
H102 in the morning before 8:15 a.m. or at lunch on Tuesdays and 
Thursdays.
Prices will go up one more time before the end of the year so get them 
now! We are also soliciting advertisements for the 2004/2005 yearbook, 
ads are
$60.00 ¼ page, $100 ½ page, $200 full page.
