Administration
1. Attention all Seniors: Are you interested in going on the SENIOR
TRIP? If so, please attend the MANDATORY informational meeting next
Wednesday, February 9th during lunch in the Little Theater. If you
have questions, check with Danielle Johnson, ASB president.
2. Summer abroad with The Experiment in International Living: See the
world through different eyes…explore another culture with a group of
new friends. The Experiment in International Living offers 45
different summer programs in over 27 countries. To learn more about
this exciting opportunity come to an informational meeting for parents
and students meeting today, Feb. 3rd at 6:30 p.m. in C106. See you
there!
3. Have you recently lost someone close to you? You are invited to
join a group of students who are also dealing with the death of a
friend or family member. If you are interested, please tell your
Counselor or Ms. Jefferson in the Counseling Office. The first
meeting, is Monday, February 7th at lunch in Conference Room A ( In the
Administration building). Food will be provided.
4. Schedule changes: The counseling office will be closed for drop-ins
and appointments until Monday, February 14th. Students that need a
schedule change can pick up a “schedule shange request form” in front
of the counseling office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, February
1- 3. Schedule change request forms will not be accepted after
Thursday, February 3rd. Counselors will do their best to complete
changes as quickly as possible. Revised schedules and passes to meet
with counselors will be delivered to students currently scheduled
classes, so students must attend all of their scheduled classes until
they receive a revised schedule. Thank you for your patience and
understanding.
5. Come to the Health Center Grand Opening today from 4-8 p.m. Bring
friends and family. Everyone is welcome! There will be food and
refreshments.
6. Attention Juniors and Seniors: Sign up for Work Experience with Ms.
Horikoshi in C317. Get credit for working.
Clubs
1. The first spring semester student council meeting will be held
today, February 3rd in C400 (first Thursday of the semester). All
second period representatives should attend. New agenda items so
please come and represent your 2nd period class. No student council
meetings during finals. Good luck!
2. Hey Best Buddies at BHS: We are having our first club meeting of the
spring semester today at lunch in H106. Come and celebrate the new
semester.
3. Women of BHS! “Speak on It” meets today at lunch in Conference Room
B! Kick off the spring semester with a positive group that talks about
issues concerning young women. Light lunch served. Bring a friend.
See ya there!
4. The “Vagina Monologues” production is happening at BHS! We need
help! Anyone interested in volunteering including violence against
women teach-ins, bake sales, ticket sales, etc. Please come meet in
the Library today at lunch.
5. Having sex? Thinking about having sex? Come to Condom Club at
lunch on Monday, February 7th in A205. One meeting will get you a
sticker on your ID that gives you 12 free condoms each week from the
BHS Health Center Remember, it’s quicker with stickers!
6. Earphone English Club at lunch on Friday in C116. You can turn in
old tapes and pick up new ones or make a special request.
7. Do you sometimes feel like there’s something missing in your life?
Do you ever wonder if there is more behind life then just monkeys? If
this sounds like you then maybe you should come to the Youth for Christ
meeting. You do not need to be a Christian to come. Join us Friday at
lunch in C400.
8. Debate Club meeting at lunch in G215 on Thursday. Come and meet
our new assistant coach.
Sports
1. All boys interested in goingbout for the golf team, call Coach Dang
at 510-540-5738. First day of practice is February 7 in Tilden Park at
4:00pm.
2. Distance runners interested in Track and Field this season should
come meet their new distance coach in Dave Goodrich’s classroom at 3:45
p.m. today in G105. You can also reach Coach Mike Beebe at
425-785-8143.
3. Neff will be taking letter jackets orders on campus today, Feb 3 at
lunch and after school in the athletic office. Pick up an order form
in the athletic office. Cost for letter, year of graduation, and sport
is $10. Checks should be made directly to Neff company and jackets
will arrive at BHS in 6-8 weeks. For questions contact Larry Rouse
from the Neff company at 916-486-1820 or Kristin Glenchur at 644-8723.
4. Spring sports season begins on Monday, February 7th. A complete
athletic packet, including parent consent and physical form, must be
turned in to the coach on the first day of tryouts. If you played a
fall or winter sport, and your physical is dated June 2004 or after,
your packet has already been turned in.
5. BHS Baseball Tryouts begin on Monday, February 7: Freshman at
Willard Middle School 6-8 p.m. All others at San Pablo Park 4-7 p.m.
Players must have a completed athletic packet, including a physical
exam, and at least a 2.0 semester GPA in order to try out. Packets are
available in the athletic office or in Mr. Moellering’s room C-128.
6. Boys Tennis: Informational meeting Friday, February 4th at the east
bleachers, 3:30 p.m. First practice on Monday, February 7 at King
Middle School on Hopkins. Bring water bottle. Best contact:
buddhabanana at hotmail.com. If raining, we will meet on campus in the
Athletic Director’s office.
Senior / Junior Section
1. College visits:

(The representative will speak about undergraduate programs as well as

2. Scholarships for students interested in a career in public safety-
fire service, emergency medical services. Interested students should
submit a one page statement for consideration to: Kevin White, Berkeley
Fire Department Station #2, 2029 Berkeley Way, Berkeley, CA 94704.
Deadline: March 31.
3. For Juniors, Saturday, February 19, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm – University o
San Francisco Multicultural Junior Preview Day for African American,
Latino and Native American high school juniors. You must have a
minimum GPA of 2.75 to participate. Presentations on academics,
majors, and eligibility requirements, campus tour, meetings with
admissions counselors, etc. Space is limited to 50 students.
Applications available in the College Center. Free. Application
deadline: February 9.
4. SAT- February 7 is the regular registration deadline for the March
12th SAT. I am not recommending that juniors take this test in March,
particularly students currently taking Algebra 2 and geometry, because
I believe you will benefit from two more months of class time. Please
do not take it as a practice, because colleges will see all of your
scores.
ACT – March 4 is the regular registration deadline for the April 9 ACT
tests.
5. Juniors: Free SAT prep at Berkeley High School on Wednesdays and
Thursdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m., beginning February 21 (room to be announced)

6. For all grades – Summer Camps and Programs Fair for students ages
8-18. Piedmont High School (333 Highland Ave., Piedmont), Monday,
February 7, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Meet directors from overnight camps,
trips, community service, and educational programs. For more

7. FOR SENIORS – Cash for College Days- Get individual help filling out
the FAFSA and preparing your tax returns. To complete the FAFSA (and
tax returns, if you want), bring your parent or guardian, social
security card or alien registration card and 2004 tax returns or 2004
income records. All events will be held in English and Spanish. Four
opportunities to participate see Ilene Abrams for more details.
Events/ Performance
1. Want $20? Come share your opinions about the health center and eat
free food. All students are welcome, including those who have never
been to the health center. Stop by the health center to sign up.
Sales
1. Yearbooks are on sale for $65.00 in H102 every Tuesday and Thursday
during lunch or zero period.
