Administration

1.	Summer Abroad with The Experiment in International Living:  See the 
world through different eyes and explore another culture with a group 
of new friends.  The Experiment in International Living offers 45 
different summer programs in over 27 countries. To learn more about 
this exciting opportunity come to an informational meeting for parents 
and students meeting on Thursday, February 3rd at 6:30 p.m. in C106.  
See you there!

2.	Have you recently lost someone close to you?  You are invited to 
join a group of students who are also dealing with the death of a 
friend or family member.  If you are interested, please tell your 
Counselor or Ms. Jefferson in the Counseling Office.  The first 
meeting, is Monday, February 7th at lunch, in Conference Room A in the 
Admin building.  Food will be provided.

3.	Schedule Changes: The counseling office will be closed for drop-ins 
and appointments until Monday, February 14th.  Students that need a 
schedule change can pick up a "schedule change request form" in front 
of the counseling office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Feb 1-3). 
SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUEST FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER THURSDAY, FEB. 
3. Counselors will do their best to complete changes as quickly as 
possible.  Revised schedules and passes to meet with counselors will be 
delivered to students currently scheduled classes, so students must 
attend all of their scheduled classes until they receive a revised 
schedule.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

4.	Come to the Health Center Grand Opening on February 3 from 4:00 - 
8:00 p.m.  Bring friends and family--everyone is welcome!  There will 
be food and refreshments.

5.	Great opportunity: Proctors needed second semester during periods 4 
and 5 to accompany a student to the YMCA.  Please contact Tamar Chaet 
in H106.

Clubs
1.	The first spring semester student council meeting will be held 
Thursday, February 3rd in C400--first Thursday of the semester.  All 
second period representatives should attend.  New agenda items so come 
and represent your 2nd period class.

2.	Attention al lCLUB REPS: The February Club Commissioner’s meeting is 
this Thursday at lunch in C400.  At least one club representative must 
attend in order for your club to have events this month.  Remember: 
Your club rosters are due!

3.	The Vagina Monologues production is happening at BHS and we need 
help!  Anyone interested in volunteering including "violence against 
women" teach-ins, bake sales, ticket sales, etc., please come meet in 
the Library at lunch on Thursday!

4.	Do you sometimes feel like there’s something missing in your life?  
Do you ever wonder if there is more behind life than just monkeys?  If 
this sounds like you then maybe you should come to the Youth for Christ 
meeting.  You do not need to be a Christian to come.  Join us Friday at 
lunch in C400.

Sports
1.	Student interested in Badminton please meet in G during lunch, 
February 2, 2005.  Tryouts are Monday, February 7, 2005 at 6:30 a.m. in 
the (new) Jacket Gym.

2.	All boys interested in going for the golf team, call Coach Dang at 
510-540-5738.  First day of practice is February 7 at Tilden Park at 
4:00 p.m.

3.	Congratulations to Sam Hammer-Nahman on his 3rd place and Alphonso 
Thomas on his 2nd place finish in the Ygnacio Valley Wrestling 
Tournament last weekend.  Come support the BHS wrestlers in the Bay 
Bridge Tourney in the Social Hall from 10-3 on February 12.

4.	Distance runners interested in Track and Field this season should 
come meet their new distance coach in Dave Goodrich’s classroom at 3:45 
p.m. on Thursday in G105.  You can also reach Coach Mike Beebe at 
425-785-8143.

5.	Neff will be taking letter jackets orders on campus on Thursday, Feb 
3 at lunch and after school in the athletic office.  Pick up an order 
form in the athletic office.  Cost for letter, year of graduation, and 
sport is $10.  Checks should be made directly to Neff company and 
jackets will arrive at BHS in 6-8 weeks.  For questions contact Larry

6.	Spring Sport Season begins on Monday, February 7th.  A complete 
athletic packet, including parent consent and physical form, must be 
turned in to the coach on the first day of tryouts.  If you played a 
Fall or Winter sport, and your physical is dated June 2004 or after, 
your packet has already been turned in.

7.	BHS Baseball Tryouts begin on Monday, February 7:  Freshman at 
Willard
Middle School 6-8 pm.  All others at San Pablo Park 4-7 pm.  Players 
must
have a completed athletic packet, including a physical exam, and at 
least
a 2.0 semester GPA in order to try out.  Packets are available in the
athletic office or in Mr. Moellering’s room C-128.

8.	Boys Tennis:  Informational meeting Friday, February 4th at the east 
bleachers, 3:30 pm.  First practice on Monday, February 7 at King 
Middle School on Hopkins.  If raining, we will meet on campus in the 
Athletic Director’s office. Bring water bottle.  Best contact:

Senior / Junior Section
1.	Scholarships for students interested in a career in public safety- 
fire service, emergency medical services.  Interested students should 
submit a one page statement for consideration to: Kevin White, Berkeley 
Fire Department Station #2, 2029 Berkeley Way, Berkeley, CA 94704.  
Deadline:
March 31.

2.	For Juniors, Saturday, February 19, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm – University 
of San Francisco Multicultural Junior Preview Day for African American, 
Latino and Native American high school juniors.  You must have a 
minimum GPA of 2.75 to participate.  Presentations on academics, 
majors, and eligibility requirements, campus tour, meetings with 
admissions counselors,etc.  Space is limited to 50 students.  
Applications available in the College Center.  Free.  Application 
deadline: February 9.

3.	SAT- February 7 is the regular registration deadline for the March 
12th SAT.  I am not recommending that juniors take this test in March, 
particularly students currently taking Algebra 2 and geometry, because 
I
believe you will benefit from two more months of class time.  Please do 
not take it as a practice, because colleges will see all of your 
scores. ACT – March 4 is the regular registration deadline for the 
April 9 ACT
tests.

4.	Juniors – Free SAT prep at Berkeley High School.  Wednesdays and 
Thursdays, 3:30 -5:30, starting February 21.  Room to be announced.  To 
enroll, send an email with your full name, school name and phone number 
to register4ptps at yahoo.com or call 510-642-4951.

5.	For all grades – Summer Camps and Programs Fair for students ages 
8-18. Piedmont High School (333 Highland Ave., Piedmont), Monday, 
February 7, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Meet directors from overnight camps, 
trips, community service, and educational programs.  For more

6.	FOR SENIORS – Cash for College Days- Get individual help filling out 
the FAFSA and preparing your tax returns.  To complete the FAFSA (and 
tax returns, if you want), bring your parent or guardian, social 
security card or alien registration card and 2004 tax returns or 2004 
income records. All events will be held in English and Spanish.  Four 
opportunities to participate see Ilene Abrams for more details.


Events/ Performance
1.  Want $20?  Come share your opinions about the health center and eat 
free food.  All students are welcome, including those who have never 
been to the health center.  Stop by the health center to sign up.

Sales

1.	Yearbooks are on sale for $65.00 in H102 every Tuesday and Thursday 
during lunch or Zero period.
