BUSD Student Board Member Lily Dorman-Colby Featured by KRON 4
BUSD Student Director Lily Dorman-Colby has been selected as one of ten
Bay Area students for their "Students Rising Above" special reports. Tune
in to KRON TV channel 4 at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14th to see Lily's
segment. "Lily's story is incredible, and she is an amazing girl," said
the KRON producer who followed her around Berkeley High last week. "This
will give Lily far more then just the scholarship to help pay for her four
years of college; this program includes a Mentoring and support system of
people committed to helping Lily along the way." Lily was nominated for
"Students Rising Above" by one of her teachers at Berkeley High, and
you'll meet him in the segment as well. According to the producer, the
scholarships range from $5,000 per year for the four years, to 'full-ride
scholarships'. Superintendent Lawrence announced Lily's selection with
obvious pride at Wednesday's school board meeting, "Lily has worked very
hard and accomplished so much, and I'm glad to see her recognized for it."
Below is more information about "Student's Rising Above" from their
website:
"Students Rising Above," formerly known as "Beating the Odds" is a series
of news stories and specials reported by anchorwoman Wendy Tokuda and
other KRON 4 News reporters. The stories feature low income, at-risk Bay
Area kids who are overcoming tremendous obstacles. Some are growing up
without parents, others are homeless, and some are raising siblings. All
of them want to go to college.
