SENIOR SECTION

TODAY ­ Deadline to apply to all of the UC campuses and many of the CSU
campuses.  I will be open all day for drop-ins if you have any last
questions about your applications.

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT FOR SENIOR PARENTS ­ Tuesday, December 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Berkeley High School Library, second floor of the new building.  A
representative of the UC Berkeley financial aid office will walk us through
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

SAT/ACT TEST DATES:  December 20 is the regular registration deadline for
the January 22 SAT test.  This is the last time that the old SAT will be
given.  

SCHOLARSHIPS
Metro PCS Community Scholars ­ $1,000 scholarship for high school seniors
living in the Bay Area with a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0
planning to study at an accredited two or four year college or university.
Applications available in the College Center.  Deadline: December 13.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ATHLETES -  http://www.athleticaid.com.  This site has
links useful to all college-bound students and especially to college-bound
athletes who are interested in being recruited and in getting sports-related
financial aid.

SCHOLARSHIP SEARCH WEB SITE ­ www.brokescholar.com.  Check out this website
to search for scholarships as well as get helpful tips on filling out
scholarship applications.

Gates Millennium Scholarship ­ This scholarship covers the cost of
attendance of an undergraduate education.  Students are eligible if they are
African American, American Indian, Asian Pacific Islander American or
Hispanic American, are a citizen or permanent resident, have a GPA of 3.3 or
above, have demonstrated leadership abilities and are low income.
Applications are available in the College Center or at www.gmsp.org.
Deadline: January 14, 2005.

FOR JUNIORS
UPCOMING WORKSHOPS 
Tuesday, December 7th from 7 to 8:15 pm.  New SAT Essay Workshop at Berkeley
Kaplan Center (150 Berkeley Square). This workshop gives students the
experience of writing a 25-minute essay under timed conditions, teaches them
exactly what the essay readers will be looking for, and introduces them to
some effective strategies for writing the SAT essay. Parents are encouraged
to sit in on the informational session that follows the timed essay
simulation.  

Saturday, December 11th from 10 am to 2 pm.  Free SAT 2005 Practice Test at
Berkeley Kaplan Center (150 Berkeley Square). Participants receive a
comprehensive score report that includes a detailed analysis of their areas
of strength and weakness on the test.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR JUNIORS
Discover Card Tribute Award - $25,000 scholarship.  To be eligible, students
must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 for or above for 9th and 10th grades and
plan to continue his or her education beyond high school.  Students must
demonstrate accomplishments in special talents, leadership, obstacles
overcome and community service.  All documents must be received by the
program by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7.

REPEAT SECTION
OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY SOCIAL AND PHYSICAL ECOSYSTEMS OF HAWAII ­ Students in
grades 10, 11, 12 with strong interest in biology or physical sciences.
Join students from the Brown Environmental Leadership Lab for a 10 day
course on the Big Island of Hawaii in February.  For more information, go to
www.brown.edu/summer, call (401) 863-7900 or e-mail summer at brown.edu.
Application forms are also available in the College Center.  Cost - $2200.
No financial aid is available.  Deadline:  December 13.

UC IRVINE STAY-OVER PROGRAM ­ Juniors and seniors may tour campus, visit
classes, eat in the dining commons and stay overnight in the dorm.  The
program runs from January 12-March 10, with the exception of January 17 and
February 21.  Applications available in the College Center.  For more
information, call 949-824-5167 or go to www.housing.uci.edu/sop.

CSU SAT CODE ­ If you are applying to any Cal State campuses, there is no
need to send your SAT scores to each one.  Instead, use the code 3594
(CSUMentor) and your scores will go to all of the CSU campuses.

APPLY TO 33 HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES with the Black College Common
Application.  www.eduinconline.com.

ESSAY READERS ­ Essay readers will be here every day at 8:00 a.m. (except
Monday), lunch and after school until November 30.
