UPCOMING COLLEGE VISITS -- SIGN UP IN THE COLLEGE CENTER

TODAY -- MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2
8:30 a.m.   Occidental College (CA)

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3
8:30 a.m.  University of Southern California

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4
10:40 a.m.  McGill University (Montreal, Canada)

UC/CSU Application Workshops: All workshops will be in the library computer
lab. You must sign up in advance in D221 as there are a limited number of
computers available.  The schedule is as follows:
Wednesday, November 3, 3:30 p.m.
Monday, November 8, 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, November 17, 3:30 p.m.

SAT/ACT TEST DATES: - Friday, November 5 is the regular registration
deadline for the December 11 ACT test.  Wednesday, November 10 is the late
registration deadline for the December 4 SAT I and II tests.  These are the
last recommended tests for the UC¹s and Cal States.

ASIAN PACIFIC YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROJECT ­ Leadership Conference in
Sacramento.  50 students will be chosen.  Deadline November 8.  Applications
available in the College/Career Center.

SCHOLARSHIPS
*Don H. Splawn Scholarship ­ open to financially disadvantaged seniors who
demonstrate significant dedication to their school, family and community for
use at an educational or vocational institution.  $1,000 scholarship.
Deadline: November 22.  Applications available in the College/Career Center.

Gates Millennium Scholarship ­ This scholarship covers the cost of
attendance of an undergraduate education.  Students are eligible if they are
African American, American Indian, Asian Pacific Islander American or
Hispanic American, are a citizen or permanent resident, have a GPA of 3.3 or
above, have demonstrated leadership abilities and are low income.
Applications are available in the College Center or at www.gmsp.org.
Deadline ­ January 14, 2005.

COLLEGE INFORMATION SESSIONS FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Thursday, November 11
    Notre Dame de Namur, Belmont, CA.  Spend a day on campus and sit in on
classes.  Call 800-263-0545 to register before November 5.

REPEAT SECTION

ESSAY CONTEST ­ Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is sponsoring an
essay contest entitled "Creating a Community Tribute to Martin Luther King."
Seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or better may enter.  Two scholarships of $750
each will be awarded.  Deadline:  December 3.  More information is available
in the College/Career Center.

WRITING COMPETITION ­ Bennington College Young Writers Awards for fiction,
poetry and plays.  Entry forms available in the College Center or at
www.bennington.edu under News & Events.  Deadline:  December 1.

ONLINE HELP WITH YOUR UC PERSONAL STATEMENT ­ www.ucgateways.org.  Click on
"Apply to College" and then click on "Personal Statement."

CSU SAT CODE ­ If you are applying to any Cal State campuses, there is no
need to send your SAT scores to each one.  Instead, use the code 3594
(CSUMentor) and your scores will go to all of the CSU campuses.

APPLY TO 33 HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES with the Black College Common
Application.  www.eduinconline.com.
