Berkeley High will offer classes in Italian in the Fall
There will be an enrichment course in Italian language offered at BHS
starting next fall for students who are serious about learning Italian.
There will be an organizational meeting at BHS on Wednesday, May 26 at 7
p.m. in Room C102 for parents and students. The program will be similar to
the one offered by U.C. Berkeley and will use the immersion method. The aim
is for students to achieve fluency and to be comfortable speaking Italian.
There is no charge for the class, but students will be required to purchase
their own textbook and other necessary materials. The class is being funded
by the Italian government, and will be an ongoing course. While there is no
credit given for this course, the students will be preparing for the SATII
test in Italian and, withing three years, the AP test in Italian.
The class will meet 3 times a week during zero period.
If you're interested in this class please contact Donatella Carta, Berkeley
High Language Instructor, who will be teaching Italian. Please email her if
you would like your child to take this class or want more information at
dcarta at berkeley.k12.ca.us. The Italian government requires a list this week
of how many students will be taking the class in order to provide funding,
so please email Mrs. Carta if possible by Tuesday to sign up for the class
Please email you child's name, your name, phone number, address, and you
child's grade level in Fall 2004.
We can use help from any interested parents to contact people who expressed
an initial interest in the class.
Please respond to Mrs. Carata's email address. She is handling the signups.
