SAT WORD OF THE DAY:      INTER - to bury in the earth.  It is customary to
inter U.S. war veterans at Arlington National Cemetary

SENIORS - Important Dates
May 25, 7:00 p.m. - SENIOR AWARDS CELEBRATION:  Participate in the Awards
Celebration at the Community Theater. Forms have been distributed in all
senior English classes.  If you have not received one, please come to the
College/Career Center.

Friday, May 28 - Last day to turn in the Exit Report if you would like to
have your future plans printed in the senior edition of the Jacket.

Friday, May 28 - Last day to turn in a Transcript Request Form to Ms.
Mellion in D173 so that we can send an official transcript to the school you
will be attending in the fall.  Write in capital letters across the top
"FINAL TRANSCRIPT" and paperclip it to a stamped business size envelope
addressed to the college.  Use Berkeley High School as the return address.
If you are under 18, please remember to have a parent/guardian sign the
request form.

Thursday, June 3 - Last day to turn in the Senior Exit Report to D221 (if
you did not do so in time for the Jacket deadline) so that you can get your
graduation tickets.


JUNIORS 
The University of California publication, "Introducing the University" is
now available.  Come by the College/Career Center to pick up your copy which
includes information on each UC campus, and their policies on admissions and
financial aid.  

UC Riverside has a Guaranteed Acceptance Program (GAP).  If you have a
minimum 3.5 UC grade point average (10th and 11th grade classes in UC
approved courses) and a minimum SAT score of 1000 or ACT of 22, you are
eligible for the program. (Additional requirements for the School of
Engineering and the School of Art.)  The application period is June 15
through July 31, 2004.  Applications available in the College/Career Center.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Meyer Sound Labs has paid summer internships for high school students (must
be 16 year old) in its manufacturing operations. We are looking for a 6-8
week commitment of 30 hours per week. If you are interested stop by their
offices at 2832 San Pablo Ave. (near Ashby) to fill out an application or
email a resume of interests and skills to hr at meyersound.com. To learn more

Chiron - Must be 16 years old and eligible to work for 8 weeks this summer,
beginning June 28th.  Several positions available.  Applications in D-221 or
at www.chiron.com. 

TESTING - DEADLINES AND PREPARATION
FRIDAY - May 21 - Late registration deadline for the June 12 ACT test.

FREE SUMMER TEST PREP - People's Test Preparation Service.  Session I -
Mon/Wed, 2-6 p.m. beginning June 28; Session II - Tues/Thurs, 2-6 p.m.
beginning June 29.  All classes held at UC Berkeley.  Call (510) 642-4951
and leave a message including your name, grade, high school, phone number
and session preference.  Or e-mail summerptps at yahoo.com.  Register early to
ensure your space in the class.

SCHOLARSHIPS

*UC Berkeley Men's Undergraduate Scholarship - one scholarship of $1,000;
two of $500 and two for $250.  Based on achievements, academic and
extracurricular activities, promotion of friendship, development of
character, diffusion of liberal culture and advancement of justice.
Applications available in the College/Career Center and at
www.ducalifornia.org.  Deadline:  July 10th.

*San Jose State Men's Undergraduate Scholarship - one scholarship of $500.
Based on achievements, academic and extracurricular activities, promotion of
friendship, development of character, diffusion of liberal culture and
advancement of justice.  Applications available in the College/Career Center
and at www.sanjosedu.com.  Deadline:  July 15.

CSF Sealbearer - Must be a member of CSF for at least 4 semesters, including
one semester during senior year; demonstrate financial need; plan to attend
a college in the fall of 2004.  Deadline:  May 20.

UCLA Latino Alumni Association - Demonstrated leadership in extra-curricular
activities and volunteer service to the community, financial need.  Deadline
June 4.  Applications in D-221.

San Francisco State College of Business, P.Y. Wen Scholarship - California
resident with a minimum GPA of 3.25 with financial need who will be
entering the College of Business.  Applications available in D-221 or at
http://cob.sfsu.edu/cob/portal_student/scholarships.cfm. Deadline: September
30.
