SAT WORD OF THE DAY: LANGUID - lacking energy; listless. A high fever
can make even an energetic toddler languid.
I WILL BE OUT OF THE OFFICE TOURING COLLEGES ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THERE
WILL BE NO BULLETIN ON FRIDAY AND MONDAY.
UPCOMING EVENTS
RESUME AND INTERVIEW WORKSHOP - Monday, May 17, 6:30-8:30 p.m.,
College/Career Center. You must sign up by Monday at lunchtime in the
College/Career Center as the workshop will be cancelled if not enough people
plan to come.
SENIORS
SENIOR AWARDS CELEBRATION: Participate in the Awards Celebration to be held
on Tuesday, May 25th at 7:00 p.m. Forms have been distributed in all senior
English classes. If you have not received one, please come to the
College/Career Center. DEADLINE EXTENDED TO: FRIDAY, MAY 14.
JUNIORS
The University of California publication, "Introducing the University" is
now available. Come by the College/Career Center to pick up your copy which
includes information on each UC campus, and their policies on admissions and
financial aid.
UC Riverside has a Guaranteed Acceptance Program (GAP). If you have a
minimum 3.5 UC grade point average (10th and 11th grade classes in UC
approved courses) and a minimum SAT score of 1000 or ACT of 22, you are
eligible for the program. (Additional requirements for the School of
Engineering and the School of Art.) The application period is June 15
through July 31, 2004. Applications available in the College/Career Center.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Meyer Sound Labs has paid summer internships for high school students (must
be 16 year old) in its manufacturing operations. We are looking for a 6-8
week commitment of 30 hours per week. If you are interested stop by their
offices at 2832 San Pablo Ave. (near Ashby) to fill out an application or

INTERNSHIP AVAILABLE at Summer Youth Theater Program in San Francisco. Come
work with kids to produce a show and get great experience working with
artist/mentors on acting, music, dance, sets, costumes, or technical
theater. Center Stage dates are 7/19-8/13- you can participate for two,

Chiron - Must be 16 years old and eligible to work for 8 weeks this summer,
beginning June 28th. Several positions available. Applications in D-221 or

TESTING - DEADLINES AND PREPARATION
May 21 - Late registration deadline for the June 12 ACT test. (www.act.org)
FREE SUMMER TEST PREP - People's Test Preparation Service. Session I -
Mon/Wed, 2-6 p.m. beginning June 28; Session II - Tues/Thurs, 2-6 p.m.
beginning June 29. All classes held at UC Berkeley. Call (510) 642-4951
and leave a message including your name, grade, high school, phone number

SCHOLARSHIPS

CSF Sealbearer - Must be a member of CSF for at least 4 semesters, including
one semester during senior year; demonstrate financial need; plan to attend
a college in the fall of 2004. Deadline: May 20.
UCLA Latino Alumni Association - Demonstrated leadership in extra-curricular
activities and volunteer service to the community, financial need. Deadline
June 4. Applications in D-221.
San Francisco State College of Business, P.Y. Wen Scholarship - California
resident with a minimum GPA of 3.25 with financial need who will be
entering the College of Business. Applications available in D-221 or at
http://cob.sfsu.edu/cob/portal_student/scholarships.cfm. Deadline: September
30.
SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES
SWIFT, a nonprofit student exchange organization based in Oakland. Offers
local families the opportunity to host a Spanish student June 28 - July 27
or August 2 - 30 (see www.SpanishExchangeStudents.org) ; or French student
July 8-29, July 1-22 or August 4-25. For more information, call

Account Career Awareness Program - A summer residency program, August 1-6 at
Mills College. Requirements: GPA 2.0 or above, completed 9th, 10th or 11th
grade, teacher or counselor recommendation. Application must be RECEIVED by
May 22nd. Applications available in the College/Career Center.
Syracuse University Summer College for High School Students - July 4-August
14. Classes in architecture, law, liberal arts, engineering and computer
science, fashion and textile design and many more. Regular application
deadline is May 30. Applications available in D-221.
