Administration

1. Advanced Placement Exams are May 3-14.  Don’t forget to bring #2
pencils, a pen, and the correct calculator to your tests!  This week's
exams are:

Wednesday, May 5
Calculus, 7:15 am, outside A-building
Music Theory and World History 12:55, Room A101

Thursday, May 6
English Literature, 7:15 am, outside the A-building
French Literature, 7:15 am, outside the A-building
German Language, 12:55, A101

Friday, May 7
US History, 8am, A101

2. ALL STAFF: Faculty swim begins Thursday, 5/6/04.  All staff is invited to
an adult only swim in the new BHS pool every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8
a.m.

3. Directorial positions for Independent Theater Projects 2005 are now open.
These spots are open to any interested Juniors, and interviews will be held
on Saturday, May 8th.  Sign ups in C216.

4. Is science your thing?  Come find the wonderful new science books we have
in the BHS Library.  Here are some titles: Why Moths Hate Thomas
Edison and Other Urgent Inquiries into the Odd Nature of Nature, The
Secret Life of Dust, Spare parts – From Peg Legs to Gene Splices, Great
Essays in Science, Mean Genes- From Sex to Money to Food, The Hunt for
Zero Point- Inside the Classified World of Antigravity Technology, The
Lives of a Cell, and many more.

5. Reminder to students from the Health Center:  The Health Center will be
closed on Thursday and Friday. If you need any services, please come in on
Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.  Have a safe and healthy Spring dance!

6. LOST- If you’ve lost a retainer, please see Ruby Taylor in
Administration.

7. Students- Do you have a band?  Would you like to perform? Please sign
your band up to perform at BHS in the administration office.

Clubs
1. The oldest board game: called Wei Chi in China, Baduk in Korea, or Go in
Japan, the game is little known in this country.  The former manager of the
Seattle Go Center, Bill Camp, will give an introductory talk on the game and
describe a very easy way to begin playing.  One hour, Monday, May 10, at
3:30 in room G103.

2. Earphone English - remember we’re meeting on Thursdays at lunch in
C116.  After all of the state testing, and before finals, come and enjoy
our collection of audio books.

3. The AP Barbeque Test will be held Friday at lunch on the Bradley
Johnson Campus Green. There is no sign-ups; fees for burgers are $2,
sausages $1.50, and sodas .50.  Testing music will be provided LIVE by the
Atomic Fists.  Remember, AP credit will only be awarded to those that EAT
MEAT!

4. All youth who attended the changing school colors youth forum on
Thursday, April 29th, there will be a follow-up meeting Friday at 9:154 in
C224.

Sports
1. Congratulations to the Boys Volleyball team on their defeat of 2nd place
DeAnza last Thursday.  They came from two games behind to secure
this excellent win.  Go Jackets!


Senior Section
1. Attention All 2004 Graduating Seniors: Please take a moment and checkthe
SENIOR LIST that is POSTED in the Library and in the College Advisor's
office.  If you find any discrepancies you will need to notify me ASAP in
the Registrar's Office (D173).

2. SENIOR AWARDS ASSEMBLY: Participate in the Awards Assembly to be held on
Tuesday, May 25th at 7:00 pm.  Pick up a form in the College/ Career Center
to let us know about the honors and scholarships you have received.
Deadline: May 11.

3. AUDITIONS:  Want to perform at the 2004 BHS graduation?  This year, the
ceremony will showcase many talented BHS seniors.  Sign up to speak, or
perform in the administration office.  Auditions will be held on May 13th.

Events/ Performance
Wednesday, May 5, 10:35 am – National Association of Black Accountants
1. BIGGEST COLLEGE FAIR OF THE YEAR – Saturday, May 8, 1:00-4:30 pm – East
Bay College Connection Fair at St. Mary's College.  Free shuttles from
Orinda BART station to the fair.  More information, including the list of
colleges attending, is available at <http://www.stmarys-ca.edu/ebcc>.
Planning guides are available in the College/
Career Center. Over 140 colleges will be attending.

2. Please join Berkeley Public Library and Berkeley High School for our 11th
Annual Poetry Reading of original works by English Language Learners.
Friday, May 7th at 7:00 pm in the Central Library Reading Room.

3. 10th Annual Career Fair: Thursday, May 13, 2004: 9 am to 12 noon at the
Berkeley Adult School.  Please call 644-8968 for more information.  Meet
employers, get job leads, and obtain employment information.

4. Poets and Writers of BHS!  Open mic event!  May 6, 2004 (Thursday) from
6:30-8:30 PM.  Sign up @ 6:30 pm and Readings at 7:00 pm.  Event at Anna's
Bistro.  1801 University Avenue.  Help support the fight against Domestic
Violence.  For more info Call Shannon Banks at 644-6928.

Sales
1. Final BART ticket sales will take place tomorrow, May 5th, for the rest
of the year.  Tickets are $16.00 and can be purchased in D148 at lunchtime
only.

2. The Chicano/ Latino Seniors are having a food sale to celebrate 5 de
Mayo.  Come and support.  Viva Mexico!

3. Senior Prom tickets on sale everyday for $60.  Prices go up $5 every week
so buy your tickets today!  Last day of sales is Friday, May 28th - NO
Later!  Remember you must turn in your contracts and library books to attend
prom!

4. The Spring Dance “Paradise at Night” is on!  The dance will be Friday,
May 7th @ 7:30 pm in the brand new BHS Student Union.  Tickets are on sale
everyday at the community Theatre Box office at lunch.  BHS students only.
Must have ID.  Tickets are $7.00.
