Dear LMi.Net customer, this note is an update on exciting developments
regarding the installation of fiber optic Internet in some of our
neighborhoods.
LMi.Net is pushing forward on two fronts:
First and foremost, we have created a sister company called Berkeley
Glass & Light to handle setting up our own fiber infrastructure. We have
been granted a CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) license by the
California Public Utility Commission, which means that we can string
fiber optic cables on telephone poles and in conduits. This process has
been and continues to be a bureaucratic quagmire, but we have made great
strides and are very close to beginning our first builds.
The second front is our partnerships with two other companies - Sonic,
and Paxio - that are also stringing fiber in our area. In the same
manner in which we work with AT&T to utilize their copper infrastructure
and provide PHLO service to you, we have deals in place with these
partners to utilize their newly deployed fiber cables.
The message to you, our valued customer, is that over the coming months
you may receive build notifications from other ISPs, you may see crews
with bucket trucks, you may receive advertisements from other companies.
But know this - LMi.Net can and wants to be your locally-owned fiber
optic Internet provider. Fiber is currently only available in some areas
of South Berkeley, and we're still many months away from availability in
other areas, but we ask that you please remain with us as we continue
our foray into the deployment of this new, super fast service. If you
receive a flyer from any of the aforementioned companies saying that
fiber is available at your address, and you are interested, please call
us and we will meet or beat any offer that you receive. Or if you have
any questions, please reply to this message or give us a call.
This year marks our 25th anniversary. To steal a saying, we couldn't
have done it without you. Your loyalty is greatly appreciated. We look
forward to the next 25 and we hope that you will join us for the
upcoming fiber optic ride!
Thank you,
LMi.Net
