The Community PE Exemption form applies only to students participating in
an outside sports program that fulfills the following requirements stated
below.

Key Requirements for the Activity

   -

   The activity must be an organized, structured athletic program or a
   competitive sport.
   -

   The Student must participate in at least five hours of structured
   activity per week, for a minimum of 60 hours total for the semester.

Community Program PE Exemption Process

   1.

   The student provides their coach with their student ID number, grade
   level, and their current learning community/hive number.
   2.

   The coach prepares the following required documents:
   1.

      The Fall 2026 Community PE Exemption Form
      2.

      A workout calendar or schedule showing a minimum of 60 hours of
      activity for the semester
      3.

      Proof of registration and/or a recent billing statement from the
      organization through which the student plans to complete their PE credit
      requirement. The registration must show the student’s name and be current
      to Fall 2026.
      3.

   The Coach must email the Community Program PE Exemption form,
   calendar/schedule, and proof of registration to peexemptions at berkeley.net
   no later than Friday, September 4, 2026. It will NOT be accepted if
   anyone else sends it. The coach and the student will receive a confirmation
   receipt via email that all documents have been received and are being
   reviewed.
   4.

   Once the student completes their 60 hours, the coach must sign the
   original Community Program PE Exemption for a second time and send it to
   peexemptions at berkeley.net by Friday, December 8, 2026.

Note: All coach signatures must be by the same coach.

Activities NOT accepted for Community Program PE Exemption:

A league team

Drop in sports activities

A professional dance company

A dance group you started with friends

A martial arts class

A personal trainer

Berkeley YMCA PE @ the Y Program*

(Located on Allston Way)

Working out in your neighborhood gym

* At present, the Berkeley YMCA is the only gym with a BHS Community
Program PE Exemption program. For information please email Angelo Petrilli
