Welcome BHS Jazz Families!

Welcome to the 2026–27 school year! We're excited to make music together
and can't wait to get started.
Music Orientation

Tuesday, August 11
12:30–2:30 p.m.
Room A202 (upstairs in the A Building)

You only need to stop by for about 30 minutes during the two-hour window.
What happens at Music Orientation?

Our main goal is to:

   -

   Check out high school instruments
   -

   Return middle school instruments

We'll also have several laptops available so parents can complete BHS Jazz
registration on the spot. Registration includes:

   -

   Providing your family's contact information
   -

   Completing permission forms for field trips and other activities

You can complete registration online if you prefer, but it's much easier to
get everything finished before school begins. A parent or guardian must be
present to complete registration.
Who needs to attend?

You only need to come if you are checking out and/or returning a BUSD
instrument. Please bring the instrument with you. Even if you think we
already know which instrument you have—we don't! (The only exception is
basses—you only need to bring a photo of the 1700 inventory number.)
Entering freshmen

Please bring your middle school BUSD instrument to orientation. We'll
exchange it for a high school instrument.
Drummers, pianists, and guitarists

If you don't need to check out an instrument, you're all set—no need to
attend.
Bassists

Only attend if you are checking out a school bass to keep at home this
year. If you already have a BUSD bass at home and will continue using it, you
do not need to bring the bass. Instead, bring a photo of the instrument's 1700
inventory number so we can renew the checkout.
Horn players using your own instrument

If you'll be using your personal instrument all year, you do not need to
attend.
Horn players using a BUSD instrument

If you are a returning or new student who plans to use a BUSD instrument
this year, please attend—even if you already have that instrument at home.
Returning summer instruments

If you borrowed a BUSD instrument over the summer but will not be using it
during the school year, please return it at orientation.
Instrument checkout fee

Please bring $20 in cash (cash only) for each instrument you plan to check
out.

At this time, students may check out one of each type of instrument. For
example, you may check out both a saxophone and a flute if you will be
using both in BHS Jazz classes.
