2025)*

The Community Program PE Exemption form applies only to students
participating in an outside sports program that fulfills the following
requirements stated below.
Community Program PE Exemption Process
1.
The student provides their Student ID number, grade level and SLC to
their coach.
2.
The coach will complete all parts of the Community Program PE Exemption
Form.
3.
The coach writes a letter

company letterhead
1.
Letter Requirements:
1.
MUST be on company letterhead
2.
Includes student’s name and the date
3.
Includes coach’s contact information
4.
Assures that the student will meet state physical standards and
competencies through the activity
5.
Workout calendar / schedule that specifies number of hours the
student will be doing the activity -- minimum of 60
2.
All coach signatures must be by the same coach. The coach who writes
and signs the letter MUST also sign the Community Program PE
Exemption form
in the beginning of the semester and at the end.
4.
The Coach must provide a proof of registration and/or billing statement from
the organization where the student plans to complete their PE credit
requirement. The registration must show the student’s name and be current
to Fall 2025.
5.
The Coach must email the Community Program PE Exemption Form, letter,
and proof of registration to peexemptions at berkeley.net no later than Friday,
September 5, 2025. It will NOT be accepted if anyone else sends it. The
coach and the student will receive a confirmation receipt via email that
all documents have been received and are being reviewed.
6.
Once the student completes their 60 hours, the same coach must sign the
original Community Program PE Exemption for a second time and send it to
peexemptions at berkeley.net <pewaivers at berkeley.net> by Friday, December
12, 2025.
7.
Remember, your activity must:
1.
Be a structured athletic program, or a competitive (state-sponsored)
team sport.
2.
Include at least five hours of structured activities per week -- a
minimum of 60 hours for the semester.

Activities that ARE accepted for Community Program PE Exemption:
Activities NOT accepted for Community Program PE Exemption:
A league team
Drop in sports activities
A professional dance company
A dance group you started with friends
A martial arts class
A personal trainer
Berkeley YMCA PE @ the Y Program*
(Located on Allston Way)
Working out in your neighborhood gym
* At present, the Berkeley YMCA is the only gym with a BHS Community
Program PE Exemption program. For information please email Angelo Petrilli
