Thank you to everyone who supported voter turnout which was at its highest
in a few years. Thank you!!!
Please be sensitive around the candidates as they poured their heart into
the election and for some, the result didn't come out as they wanted. It is
not easy to put oneself out there.
If you are inspired to apply to leadership, please complete the APPOINTED
LEADERSHIP application before APRIL 22. We conduct interviews and review
your application to place leaders into their best positions.

Here is the process I go through to count the ranked-choice ballots:
- First, I clean up the votes for one position at a time. Some of your
classmates marked candidates down as "1,2,3" or similar. They basically
wasted part of their votes by doing this. That "1,2,3" only counts as a 1st
choice since it is the highest. ("Clean up" example: Voter puts "2,3" for
Jac. I will type "2" instead since that was their highest choice listed. We
cannot count 2 votes for the same candidate.)
- Next, I count all the 1st choice votes for each candidate. If a
candidate reaches 50% + 1, then they are elected. If not, the candidate
with the lowest total has their votes redistributed to the other
candidates. I sort them and then count the 2nd choice votes to be
redistributed.
- This process repeats until someone has 50% + 1 majority or two
candidates have 33.3% + 1 majority for the two positions. See here more
details

.
- I keep digital notes as well as paper notes. Given the close count, I
recounted the Chief of Service and Senior Class Vice President tallies.
- Please know that just because someone has the most votes during the
first or second round, it doesn't mean that they were the preferred 2nd or
3rd choice or 4th choice by voters. Therefore, they may fall back in
further tallies during subsequent rounds.
