Dear Members -

Please join us this Thursday, October 6th, 4-6 p.m. as we welcome Professor
Christina Romer to "Academic Lives." Professor Romer is the Garff B.
Wilson Professor of Economics at Cal and was Chair of President Obama's
Council of Economic Advisors from January 2009 through September 2010.

In a talk aptly titled "A Tale of Two Cities" Professor Romer will discuss
the challenges both of academia and public service. The "Academic Lives"
program has often considered the juggling act necessary to excel in
academia and also create a personal life of authenticity. Romer had met
this challenge and then answered a call to public service that expanded
her commitments to a national scale. Come hear her story of life in both
Washington D.C. and Berkeley! A reception follows the program.

Our second "Arts in the Afternoon" is Thursday, October 20th, 4 - 6 p.m.  
David Milnes will conduct the Cello Section of the University Symphony
Orchestra performing "Neiges" by the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho. 
There will also be a violin, cello and piano trio performing Ernst Bacon's
"Piano Trio No. 2 for Violin, Cello and Piano." Please arrive early for
the best seats.

These are both excellent opportunities to introduce friends and colleagues
to the Club. Please arrive early for the best seats and stay for
receptions
following.

Don't forget to place your orders for this week's "Dinner-To-Go" for
Wednesday, October 5th. The entree this week is Manicotti with ricotta and
fresh mozzarella in a light tomato sauce; served with tossed green salad
and garlic bread, $10.95. Feel free to email, fax, or call in your orders.
