a project based on the belief that the sharing and performance
of stories
can make relationships stronger, empower those who feel like
they have no
voice, and bring communities closer together. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

is
the third in a series of collaborations between Berkeley
Unified School
District, the non-profit Community Performance International (<a
href="http://communityperformanceinternational.org"><a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://communityperformanceinternational.org">http://communityperformanceinternational.org</a></a>),
CPI
Director, Richard Owen Geer, and Saint Mary’s College in
Moraga. The
previous two projects took place in 2014 and 2015 at Thousand
Oaks Elementary,
and were known as BRIDGE/PUENTE.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

the
month of January 2016, Richard Owen Geer, King parent, Rachel
Hurwitz, and
students from Saint Mary’s College, will work with King
students in a new
LEARNS after-school class. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span
style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">The
SMC
and King students will become a “Story Bridge team” to collect
stories from the broader King community, develop each other's
stories, and interview prominent community activists, artists,
and thinkers
about important topics.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

same time, students in Lindsay Leopold’s LEARNS after-school
drama classes
will develop a theater piece based on the stories collected by
the Story Bridge
