CSUEB can<br>be an excellent option for students to consider.<br><br>1. Ms. Price and Mr. Barton will continue to provide financial aid<br>application assistance to BHS seniors, after school from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on<br>Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, throughout the month of February.<br><br>Steps to be prepared for the Financial Aid Workshops:<br><br>(1) Be prepared with student and parent social security numbers or taxpayer<br>identification numbers.<br><br>(2) Bring your family's most recent federal tax forms, such as 1040, W-2,<br>bank statements, etc. You will not have to reveal this information to<br>anyone, but you will need it to complete the forms. If your family's 2012<br>federal tax returns are not ready yet, bring 2011 tax returns for<br>estimating.<br><br>(3) Submit a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form to our Registrar's Office<br>(D-173) as soon as possible. You can obtain a form from D-173. The Berkeley<br>High School deadline to turn in this form is February 8, 2013.<br><br>2. FINANCIAL AID: The FAFSA and the CA Dream Act application periods are<br>open from January 1, 2013 - March 2, 2013. In order to receive the best<br>financial aid package that you are eligible for, you are highly encouraged<br>to submit your FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application as early as possible.<br><br>If you are planning on applying for financial aid, you and your parents<br>should sign up for a PIN# at <a href="http://www.fafsa.ed.gov">www.fafsa.ed.gov</a>. Applications are now<br>available for the 2013-2014 school year.<br><br>3. IF YOU HAVE NOT SENT IN YOUR TEST SCORES FROM <a href="http://COLLEGEBOARD.ORG">COLLEGEBOARD.ORG</a> OR <a href="http://ACT.ORG">ACT.ORG</a><br>TO THE COLLEGES YOU HAVE APPLIED TO, DO SO ASAP.<br><br>Sending Mid-Year Grade Reports: For schools on the Common App, your<br>counselor who you have identified to provide a Secondary School Report will<br>also upload your mid-year report (transcript) online. For non-Common App<br>schools that require mid-year reports, you must submit a transcript request<br>form with a stamped and addressed envelope to our Registrar's Office, D-173.<br>Please check all of your accounts and school websites for requirements and<br>deadlines. We recommend that you check all of your accounts and school<br>portals at least once per week for updates.<br><br>4. CSU PLACEMENT TESTS: CSU requires you to take the English Placement Test<br>(EPT) and the Entry-Level Mathematics Test (ELM) before you enroll. Your<br>scores are not used for admission purposes, but they do determine which math<br>and English courses you should take to begin your career at CSU. Most<br>students will have to take the exam, but there are some circumstances under<br>which you may be exempt.<br><br>Seniors: If you are planning on attending a CSU, we encourage you to take<br>care of this requirement (Placement Tests) early in the spring.<br><br>By completing this process early, you will not have to worry about missing<br>any deadlines for this requirement. The 2013 Metropolitan Transportation Commission High School Summer<br>Internship Program is now open for applicants. The pay rate is $10.55 per<br>hour. The Berkeley Rotary Scholarship Program is designed<br>to provide financial and personal support for deserving students attending<br>high school in the city of Berkeley. Considerations for scholarships<br>include financial need, the application package and personal statements and<br>recommendations. The program is looking for well-rounded students who<br>demonstrate they are prepared for college through activities included in<br>high school, community service activities, work experience and academic<br>achievement. Applications are due March 15, 2013.<br><br> The Morris C. and Juliet James Achievement Fund: This fund is the major<br>fund-raising project of the Berkeley Retired Teachers Association, awarding<br>money to high-achieving graduating Berkeley High seniors. To be eligible,<br>you must have attended Berkeley schools for the majority of your public<br>school education. You may come to the College and Career Center to receive<br>an application. Applications are due by March 12, 2013.<br><br> BERKELEY COMMUNITY FUND SCHOLARSHIP: The Community Fund provides<br>4-year scholarships and mentoring support for academically talented<br>and resilient Berkeley High School students. Application information packets are<br>available in the College and Career Center.<br><br>2013 Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival: Eligibility includes<br>being a graduating senior of Japanese American descent with a GPA minimum of<br>2.5. Applicants should be actively involved in the community. Applications<br>are available in the College/Career Center, and the deadline to apply is<br>March 19, 2013.<br><br>Italian American Federation of the East Bay: Requirements include being a<br>senior of Italian ancestry and graduating from a high school in the East<br>Bay. Applicants will be evaluated by the following factors: Their<br>scholastic record, activity and other evidence of leadership and character,<br>recommendations from faculty, and a personal statement. Applications are<br>available in the College/Career Center, and the deadline is April 30.<br><br>Splawn Scholarship: Requirements include demonstration of financial need,<br>minimum 2.6 GPA, and demonstration of paid or unpaid employment, community<br>service and/or extracurricular activities. Deadline is Monday, April 15.<br><br>Young Women in Public Affairs Awards: Recognizing young women for their<br>demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to public service.<br>Requirements include women who are ages 16-19, demonstration of active<br>commitment to volunteerism, experience in local or student government,<br>knowledge of Zonta International and its programs, advocating in Zonta<br>International's mission of advancing the status of women worldwide. Deadline<br>is March 15, 2013, and applications are available at www.zonta.org<br><br>Ann & Jon Reynolds Scholarship Awards (Seniors): These scholarships will be<br>awarded to the successful applicants at $3,000 per year. Two awardees will<br>be selected. The eligibility criteria includes a record of community<br>service involvement, a minimum GPA of 3.0, native born U.S. citizen, and<br>submission of a Student Aid Report Summary from Federal Student Aid Program.<br>Applications are available in the College and Career Center. Application<br>deadline is April 30, 2013.<br><br>NCGA Foundation: Youth on Course is a program of the NCGA Foundation.<br>Through the YOC, deserving youth have the opportunity to develop life skills<br>and values through golf. Youth who have never had exposure to the game have<br>access to clinics, on-course play, internship opportunities and<br>scholarships. Applicants must meet the requirements of a minimum 3.0 GPA,<br>and acceptance to a four-year college/university. Applications are available<br>in the College and Career Center, and the deadline for submitting<br>applications is March 1, 2013.<br><br> KIWANIS CLUB OF BERKELEY 2013 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: The Scholarship<br>Committee, based on the strength of the application, will consider<br>applicants who demonstrate academic ability, leadership and moral integrity,<br>a commitment to serve their school and community, and the greatest incentive<br>to continue development of their life goals. Kiwanis, as a service<br>organization, is especially interested in community service.
