(for Human Energy and Appropriate Technology). H.E.A.T. is one of five programs throughout the state of California that have been generously supported by the California Department of Education and PG&E. Within this Green Academy program, students learn about what energy is; how we generate, transmit, and use energy; the physics of energy; electricity and electronics; and the environmental trade-offs involved in various energy sources. The coverage in the Voice showed one of our students with one of these projects: a model passive solar home.

Green Academy also has a second program that focuses on environmental science. This is the S.E.E.D. program (for Sustainability, Ecology, and Environmental Design). Within S.E.E.D, students learn about ecology and ecosystems; population; air and water pollution; sustainable agriculture; and biodiversity, and issues related to energy.

Both program are preparing students for careers and higher education in the emerging Green economy.

You can learn more about the BHS Green Academy and its two programs, HEAT and SEED, by visiting our website: http://sites.google.com/site/greenacademybhs/

And if you have any questions, please feel free to contact
Glenn Wolkenfeld, Co-Leader, BHS Green Academy
Coordinator, HEAT Program (Human Energy and Appropriate Technology)
glennwolkenfeld@berkeley.net
