Contest! Students are invited to create a one to two minute video news
package showing a local angle on one of four chosen global issues:
1. Kick the Habit... De-carbonizing our Lifestyles and Economies; 2.
World Heritage... Local Sites and International Interests;
3.<x-tab> </x-tab>Growing Up Girl... The Challenges Facing Girls
Everywhere; 4. World Water... Access to Clean Water. The
top three teams, consisting of two students and an educator, will get
an experience of a lifetime - an all expense paid trip to New York to
attend the United Nations Foundation Youth Leadership Summit.

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS - The 26th Annual Chicano Latino Youth
Leadership Project (CLYLP) Summer Conference will take place in
Sacramento at the California State University, Sacramento campus from
July 26th - August 2nd, 2008. More than 2,000 California high
school students have participated in the summer conference with over
90% of CLYLP participants going on to attend college. Through
the training and tools provided at the conference, CLYLP alumni become
successful leaders in both the public and private sector. The program
is open to current 10th and 11th grade students. Activities
include a legislative day at the state capitol, campaign development
workshops and a college and careers day, as well as leadership

</b></u>SPRING BREAK JOBS - Sarah's Science is looking for day
camp counselors. Students must be at least 16 years old, have
experience working with children (babysitting counts), a positive
attitude and enjoy guiding and mentoring children ages 5-12.
Camps are located in Oakland, Berkeley and Dublin. Oakland and
Dublin: March 24-28; Berkeley: March 31-April 4, 8:00 am-5:30 pm.

Summer camp jobs - City of Berkeley, Echo Lake Camp near South Lake
Tahoe is hiring for maintenance and kitchen staff as well as
counselors. Most staff work 8 hour days. Counselors
work about 8 hours each day through the week and have weekends off.

Camp Galileo is an art, science and outdoor summer day camp for kids
entering K-5 grade. Volunteer Summer Intern positions at Camp Galileo
are available for high school students in over 19 communities
throughout the Bay Area.</font><font face="Comic Sans MS"

color="#000000"> Summer Interns can earn high school community service
credits, gain leadership experience, make new friends and enjoy an
enriching and rewarding summer experience with children entering K-5th

Summer Interns assist with all aspects of camp-from helping kids
with art and science classes to setting up camp games. Students

</b></u>FREE SAT PREP CLASS - you can still join the free SAT prep
class at Berkeley High. It's held every Tuesday and Wednesday
from 3:45-5:45 in H207. Tuesday focuses on the math portion of
the test and Wednesday focuses on the critical reading section.
No sign-up is necessary. </font></div>

<u>SAT/ACT TEST DATES</u> - March 21 is the late registration
deadline for the April 12 ACT test. April 1 is the regular
registration deadline for the May 3 SAT and SAT subject tests.

*Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival - Graduating senior of
Japanese descent who shows commitment to community, academic
achievement, and personal character. Two winners of $2,000

*Lee Franklin Memorial Scholarship - Open to senior student athletes
at Berkeley High School who have lettered in at least one, and
preferably two, sports at Berkeley High School with an overall minimum
unweighted grade point average of 3.25 who has demonstrated financial
need and plans to enroll in and begin study at a two or four year
college in Fall of 2008. Applications available in D221,
Scholarship: $1,000. Deadline: March 31. <br>

Carleton College, "The Carleton Liberal Arts Experience" -
Accepted students receive free room and Board. Students are
responsible for their own travel to and from the program. The program
is for African American students or students who have an interest in
