The California Film Institute will hold its third annual Young Critics Jury for young adults (ages 13-18) July 12-14, 2005. This three-day intensive course can prepare teens for a career or it can be used as a unique exercise in critical thinking. Film professionals from many fields including: production, animation, film criticism, screenwriting, special effects, curating for theaters and film societies, art design, cinematography, acting -- will spend time and speak with course participants about the craft of filmmaking in an intimate seminar atmosphere at the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center.<BR>

<B>It’s a crash course in how to watch, critique and understand techniques of moviemaking from Hollywood feature length films to the shortest student work.</B> The week after the three-day intensive, the 6 graduates (chosen beforehand from the original applications) will judge and curate the entries for the 2004 Mill Valley Film Festival’s (October 7-17) annual program of youth-made films. <BR>

<FONT COLOR="#FF0000"><B>We have a special announcement about  the last speakers for the course this year.</B></FONT> From 1981-1988 three young Mississippi boys invested every cent they had in a dream project. This year we have confirmed that the three filmmakers who did a shot by shot remake of  RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (called “The Adaptation”) will show their film to the Young Critic’s Jury and answer questions after. Their story can be seen in a Vanity Fair article from 2004 \<BR>

Academy Award winning director/writer Jeff Brown.<BR>

Craig Barron, film historian, and special effects director from Matte World Digital (MUMMY RETURNS, X-MEN, LAST SAMURAI).<BR>

Judy Stone, for thirty years the San Francisco Chronicle’s lead critic, Judy has published many books of interviews of some of the most prominent people in the international film industry.<BR>
