public speaking ) in the country.
At the tournament hosted at Berkeley High
on Feb 26th over 50 schools will convene in this local meet. This is a good

this is something they would like to participate in. A few of the events are
Debate, Impromptu, Humorous and Dramatic Interpretation

Berkeley High’s
Debate and Public Speaking team was reignited by Principal Jim Slemp after
discovering that program had disappeared for over 20years. The BHS team was
welcomed, fostered and renewed by the schools and educational foundations around
the area. Debaters from Private schools took time off their winter break to come
and coach. Coaches from schools in the adjustment areas rallied and supported
the Berkeley High Team. Tijinder Singh UC’s top debater now graduated came to
start the team off. The <?fontfamily><?param Times>Berkeley High School
Development Group, <?/fontfamily>The Berkeley Public Education Foundation, and
The Philanthropic ventures foundation provided team funds. UC Berkeley’s Debate
Squad sent Josh Gagan who is working hands on with the team.

The
National Debate Topic this year is whether the US should support the UN and the
Lincoln Douglas topic deals with whether there should be a strict separation
between Church and State. The team took it on the chin their first tournament.
Jonah Trotz took home a trophy last week for his excellent Lincoln Douglas
