The community is cordially invited to attend.

The Berkeley High School (BHS) Civic Leaders Club is sponsoring the first
Berkeley School Board Candidate Forum aimed at high school students. The
Forum will take place at the Berkeley High School Little Theater on Tuesday
October 8th from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

This event marks a historic moment for youth in Berkeley. Eight years after
Berkeley’s Vote 16 Measure Y1 passed in 2016 with over 70% approval, 16 and
17 year olds will have the ability to vote in this year’s school board
elections for the first time. Berkeley and Oakland are the first cities in
California to enact legislation allowing people of 16 years and older to
vote in any public elections, so this school board election is a first.

All five Berkeley school board candidates Laura Babitt, Jen Corn, Norma J F
Harrison, Abdur Sikder, and Ana Vasudeo are scheduled to attend. BHS Civic
Leaders president, Eva Levenson, will open the evening and introduce the
candidates. Winta Clark, Berkeley Unified School District’s Student School
Board Rep, and Jules Droz, BHS Civic Leaders Vice president, will moderate
the Forum. Questions for the candidates will be submitted by students and
community members.
