Hello BHS Jazz Families–
Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! We are very excited to start playing
jazz together!
On Tuesday, August 13 from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. (the day before the first day
of school) we have "Music Orientation" in Room A202 (upstairs in the A
Building).
This year, THE PRIMARY THING THAT WILL HAPPEN DURING "MUSIC ORIENTATION" IS
THAT WE WILL CHECK OUT INSTRUMENTS, CHECK IN INSTRUMENTS THAT STUDENTS HAD
OVER THE SUMMER, AND COLLECT MIDDLE SCHOOL INSTRUMENTS / EXCHANGE THEM FOR
HIGH SCHOOL ONES.
That said, we WILL have several laptops so that you can fill out your BHS
Jazz registration on the spot if you would like. This includes giving us
your contact data so we can keep you informed of all things Jazz, and
parents signing permissions for field trips, etc. You can also do this
online, but it’s very nice to get it done before school starts! A parent
needs to be present to complete this process.
We will also offer tours of the shiny still-almost-new A Building, if you
are new to BHS.
But, the only people who *have* to come to orientation are folks who will
be checking out an instrument this year.
Drummers, pianists, guitar players ... unless you need to check something
out, you are excused. Bassists, only come if you will be checking out a
school bass to keep at home for the year. Horn players who will play your
own instruments all year … no need to come to orientation.
If you are a continuing or new horn player who plans to check out a BUSD
instrument for the 2024- 25 school year, please come by, even if you
already have the instrument you plan to use for the coming year in your
possession. *Bring the instrument with you* (one exception -- bass players,
you do not need to drag that bass in, just take a pic of the 1700 number
and bring that with you). If you have an instrument that you were using
over the summer and do not plan to continue using that instrument, you need
to return it to us at orientation (for example, if you are a bass player
who wanted to try out a saxophone over the summer, it is time to return
that saxophone now).
Even if you think we already know the number of your instrument, please
stop by -- we promise you, we do not know it! BRING ANY AND ALL BUSD
INSTRUMENTS YOU CURRENTLY HAVE AT YOUR HOUSE WITH YOU!
Entering freshmen, please bring your middle school BUSD instrument with you
and we will exchange that for a high school instrument.
Please bring $20 in CASH (CASH ONLY!!!) for every instrument you plan to
check out. At this time, we can only check out ONE of each type of
instrument to you, but you could check out two different types of
instruments, for example, a sax and a flute, if you will for sure use both
of those instruments in BHS jazz classes.
