Dear BHS families,

CIEE, a non-profit dedicated to foreign exchange that Berkeley High School
works closely with, is currently looking for some volunteer host families
for their students arriving in August for the 24’-25’ school year. Being a
host family is fairly simple…you need to provide a loving and welcoming
home, a bedroom for the student to sleep (though one can be shared), 3
meals/day, and help arrange transportation to/from school. All students are
fluent in English and will come with their own spending money and insurance
and enroll at BHS like any other student would.

A host family can host for 8-10 weeks, a semester, or the full school year.

Here’s a little info about the 3 students heading to California:

Eike, 15M, Germany: “People say I'm a funny, sociable, outgoing guy with my
heart in the right place. Although I'm not religious, I try to live values
such as respect, honesty, tolerance and consideration. I always try to be
positive and find solutions to problems. I've been doing sports since ever.
In winter I like to ski and snowboard, in summer I like surfing. My
favourite sport is soccer, as I am an active goalkeeper in a performance
club. I love pets, traveling, cooking and working with kids.”

Mia, 17F, Norway: “I am an extrovert-introvert and my friends describe me
as social, funny and goofy. During the winter, I do downhill skiing and go
as often as possible with my friends and family. In the summertime is boat
rides and days on the water my favorite activity. I am dedicated when it
comes to school, even though I find some subjects such as math, difficult.
When it comes to future career, am I clueless at the moment, but I have
considered lawyer, interior designer or starting something on my own.”

Philip, 16M, Germany (5 month student…only here for fall semester!): “I am
almost always happy and my friends would describe me as a helpful and
friendly person. In my free time I like to go to the stadium, because I am
a big fan of the soccer club Schalke 04. I also like to play soccer with my
friends and I row in a club. In addition, I am a swimming instructor of 6
to 11 years old children. I enjoy working with children as it can be
challenging at some times and you can see progress little by little. In the
future I would like to work in the field of medicine.”

If you are interested in hosting or learning more information, please
contact Ms. Pistoni at erikapistoni at berkeley.net.

Best,

Ms Pistoni
