Dear U9 Families,
On *Monday August 28th (ELA) and Monday September 11th (Math)*, your child
will take a computerized MAP Growth test from NWEA. MAP Growth scores help
teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth.
Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons, set goals for students,
and create meaningful, targeted interventions.
The tests will be taken in their Hive classes (English, Math, Physics, and
Ethnic Studies) and will last for two class periods (from ~10:45-12:20 or
1:15-2:45). They should attend their first period at the normal start time
for a Monday, which is 10:00am. They will be released at the normal end
time, 3:33pm. There is minimal disruption to their schedule as we have
carefully coordinated the timing of this assessment.
Because they are testing in different classrooms, you will receive a phone
call the day of the test that says your child missed two periods of school.
We cannot bypass this attendance system but all absences will be cleared
within 48 hours.
MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to
measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question
correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer
incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more
complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it
is on, above, or below their grade level.
There is nothing you or your child needs to do to prepare for this test.
The test will help us track growth over time, so we expect to give it again
once or twice more this school year.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and
achievement. For more information about MAP Growth, visit

Sincerely,
Vanessa Sinai
