The Berkelium robotics team is asking for your help!

We are a robotics team based in the Berkeley High School Fab Lab that
competes in the international FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of
Science & Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) where high school teams
from around the world compete against each other in a predetermined
challenge that changes every year.

We’re a diverse team of 60 students from all grades and backgrounds, and
we’re currently in the middle of our competition season, having already
been to three regional competitions in Canada, San Francisco, and
Sacramento, and preparing for championships in Houston, Texas!

Our team welcomes students of all experiences, identities and backgrounds.
Our mission is to provide team members with hands-on experience in STEM
fields, focusing on skills such as programming, machining, design, as well
as media and business management. We also encourage the development of soft
skills such as leadership, teamwork and mentoring fellow students. Our team
stands out at competitions, with 48% of students coming from
underrepresented communities in STEM (women, BIPOC, Latinx, youth with
disabilities, LGBTQIA+).

We have put over 20 hours per week into building this robot over the past
semester and we would love to see it compete at the highest level at the
FRC World Championship. The robotics team is a club which means we don’t
receive school funding. We have no paid staff, relying instead upon our
volunteer mentors and parents. We are run through a 501(c)(3) non-profit
that relies on both monetary and in-kind donations from generous sponsors.

Your donation will help pay for robot materials, tools/equipment,
competition fees, travel/transportation expenses and will also sponsor
students who are unable to afford travel fees. 100% of your donation will
go directly to the team, and we appreciate any amount you can give. We also
accept material, technological, or food donations!

Our mission is to provide all students in our community with the
opportunity to gain hands-on experience and knowledge in STEM, leadership,
and finance no matter their race, gender, or socioeconomic status.

Our most recent competition was the Sacramento Regional at UC Davis last
weekend, where our team made it to the finals and qualified for the
international championships in Houston, Texas. This is the first time in
our team’s history that we have qualified for the championships, and we are
overjoyed to have the opportunity to go! Unfortunately registering for the
competition requires $5,000, and that’s not including the cost of hotels,
food, and transportation which amount to around $40,000. Our current
financial situation does not support the price of bringing our team to this
prestigious event. We are currently planning fundraising events in
cooperation with our friends and family, but we need your help to make this
happen. Your donation will go towards the competition registration fee,
robot transportation costs, and will fund scholarships for students in need
to attend the event. To be financially accessible to every member of the
community, we don’t charge any sort of club fees, which is why fundraising
is so vital to the team’s success. Overall, our goal is to get as much of
our team to this once in a lifetime event and we hope you can help make
that dream become reality.

Thank you so much,
