Students Rising Above Rising Stars Program <https://sra.tfaforms.net/51>: The Students Rising Above Rising Stars Program is for High School Juniors graduating in Spring 2024. SRA empowers students facing systemic barriers to define and find success through education, career, and in life. Selected students will receive mentoring support, financial assistance, and college and career guidance. The goal of the Rising Stars Program is to provide students with the individualized support they need to be successful. The deadline is March 4th, 2023.

Participants join Santa Clara University School of Engineering on three Sundays in April (16, 23 & 30, 2023 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.) to attend workshops providing an introduction to various engineering disciplines. Topics will include: Bioengineering, Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, General Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The deadline for ordering AP and IB tests at the regular price was Thursday, November 10th. The price has increased by $40 per exam after 11/10 but you can still register.

Your student has applied to college! What should they be doing now?
Signing up for campus portals as necessary (information shared in their email). Save usernames and passwords and check the portal regularly.
Make sure you’ve completed FAFSA or CADAA and maybe CSS Profile (private schools) to keep your financing options open. If you don’t want to complete the FAFSA please fill out this Opt out Form <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1o5bz1nGD-yW5vzGGSoszwm3mCGdbRtthHTaQOyAjYmg/edit?usp=sharing> and send it to erikapistoni at berkeley.net <mailto:erikapistoni at berkeley.net>.
Keep working hard in school. Students are conditionally accepted and are expected to maintain the same kinds of grades they applied with.
Keep track of any changes since applying - good and bad - as they will likely want to share that with schools if prompted or waitlisted.
Your student is still applying to colleges due in January or beyond. What should they be doing now?

Working on essays with essay readers in the CCC
FAFSA is open! The priority deadline is March 2nd. Berkeley Kiwanis Scholarships <http://www.berkeleykiwanis.org/>: Each year the Kiwanis Club of Berkeley Foundation awards a number of scholarships to deserving graduating seniors from the cities of Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito. The Scholarship Committee, based on the strength of the application, will consider applicants who demonstrate academic ability, leadership, and a commitment to serve their school and community. Deadline February 7th, 2023.
BRTA: The Berkeley Retired Teachers Association is proud to offer the ‘Morris and Juliet James Achievement Award’ specifically to Berkeley High Seniors. Please come to the CCC to take a paper copy of the application. Deadline to submit is February 23th, 2023.

Grief group
As a way to support our student community, the BHS counselors have partnered with Sutter Health Bereavement Counselors who will be coming to campus and offering a support group that is focused on coping with grief.
The group will be meeting on Mondays at 9am in D-218 for the entire school year.
