Greetings Berkeley!
 
This posting is regarding a planning effort currently underway for the Berkeley Civic Center.  

BACKGROUND: In 2019/2020, the City completed a vision plan for the Civic Center which includes Martin Luther King, Jr. Civic Center Park, the Maudelle Shirek Building (former City Hall) and the Veterans Memorial Building.  Based on great community participation, this original effort concluded in a City Council adopted vision statement:    
 
The Civic Center will be the heart of Berkeley’s community and a prime space for civic life, culture, and the arts. It will reflect the city’s diverse identities, celebrating its history, and contributing to its future.  As a place of shared resources and a platform for free expression accessible to all, the Civic Center aims to manifest the city’s values, advance social justice, and demonstrate the power of true public space.
 
REQUEST: As part of our ongoing effort to develop a high-level consensus-based design concept, the Berkeley Civic Center Project Team hosted an Open House on November 16, 2022 to solicit input on the project area uses and emerging design ideas. The Open House presentation (which includes presentation notes at the bottom of each slide) and a survey are now available online for your review and participation. We thank those of you who attended the November 16, 2022 Open House and completed the survey. We continue to welcome input from people regarding the future of Berkeley’s Civic Center. Please complete and share this online survey link <https://qualtricsxmjph7lvfxl.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aa71ggvGKG50ZIa> and communication with family members (including BHS students!), neighbors, friends, and others for their participation.   
 
At the end of the survey, which is anonymous, you can opt to receive project updates (including notice of a second open house in Spring 2023) by providing your email address where indicated.  
 
The survey will be open through January 5, 2023. The survey may take about 10-15 minutes to complete.
