Hi BHS families,

AP Test

The deadline for ordering AP and IB tests at the regular price was Thursday, November 10th. The price has increased by $40 per exam after 11/10 but you can still register.

Grief group

As a way to support our student community, the BHS counselors have partnered with Sutter Health Bereavement Counselors who will be coming to campus and offering a support group that is focused on coping with grief.
The first meeting date will take place on November 28th and the group will be meeting on Mondays at 9am in D-218 for the entire school year.

Resources and College Information Sessions Outside of School:

LPA Interdisciplinary Diversity Scholarship <https://learnmore.scholarsapply.org/lpa/>: This program is seeking applicants for the 2023 class. Each year they award $5,000 renewable scholarships to students passionate about pursuing a career in architecture or engineering. The scholarship includes mentorship and intern opportunities. Applications are due January 27th, 2022.

College Preparatory for Careers in Medicine <https://dob.pmfmd.com/college-preparatory-for-careers-in-medicine/college-preparatory-for-careers-in-medicine-registration/>: This virtual program is an exciting opportunity for high school students who are under-represented minorities in medicine in Northern California who are interested in becoming a medical doctor OR have a career in medicine or other healthcare professions. Application deadline is Friday, December 2nd, 2022.

Xi Gamma Omega Chapter <https://www.xigammaomega.com/>: The Xi Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will be awarding scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000, to outstanding African American high school seniors. The scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and financial need. Apply here <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfjJ7j8BqNhqVNrnrTMRvBLt7SrlXT2UXbxgVQz_2qt49dYpg/viewform> by January 31st, 2022.

Presidential Scholarship <https://dos.sfsu.edu/presidential-scholars> at San Francisco State University: the scholarship covers tuition, room and board, and books and supplies for four years for up to six entering freshmen. The goal is for students to graduate debt-free.
 Eligible students are those who graduate from high school with a 3.5 GPA, are Pell Grant eligible, and demonstrated leadership and service while in high school.

Memoir Writing Scholarship <https://social-impact.penguinrandomhouse.com/our-awards/u-s-creative-writing-awards/>: great Memoir Writing Scholarship Opportunity - $10,000 for 2 or 4-year bound students. In recognition of Michelle Obama’s long-standing commitment to mentorship and education, as well as her inspiring leadership in encouraging young people to discover the power of telling their own stories, this award grants a college scholarship of $10,000 to one young, promising writer.

For students applying to Boston University with an outstanding academic records and strong leadership skills consider the Trustee Scholarship <https://www.bu.edu/admissions/tuition-aid/scholarships-financial-aid/first-year-merit/trustee/> and the Presidential Scholarship. <https://www.bu.edu/admissions/tuition-aid/scholarships-financial-aid/first-year-merit/presidential/> The application deadline for these scholarships is December 1, 2022.

Six Colleges <https://www.sixcolleges.org/>: Amherst, Bowdoin, Carleton, Pomona, Swarthmore, and Williams are hosting a series of virtual events for students and families.

Pre-Vets Supporting Diversity Club <http://prevetsofdiversity.weebly.com/> at UC Davis: Virtual high school Pre-Veterinary mentorship program that will run from January to early June 2023. The mentor will guide students as they prepare for their college education, as well as offer them insight into the application process for veterinary schools and the different career paths within the veterinary field. The application will be open till December 12, 2022.
