Key Club Fundraiser for Pediatric Trauma

Pediatric Trauma remains the leading cause of death and injury among
children ages 14 and under in the United States. The mission of the
Pediatric Trauma Program (also known as PTP) is to develop local projects
which will reduce the number of children who are killed or injured by
trauma.

This Thursday afterschool, Key Club will be selling popsicles to raise
money for the Pediatric Trauma Program at the grass across the street from
school on Allston and Milvia. It will be a great way to relieve yourself
from the heat while donating to a great cause! Make sure you bring some
extra cash and your friends. For any questions, DM us on Instagram at

Grief Group Needs Student Input!

Berkeley High has recognized a need for grief support services and is
working to create a grief group that meets once a week for the entire
school year. This group is intended to create a space where students can
connect with other students as well as a mental health professional who can
support grieving the loss of loved ones. We are in the process of figuring
out the time and day, but need your help to determine when would be the
best time.

If you are interested in joining a Grief Group at Berkeley High School, please
fill out this survey to indicate when you are most available
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BEYJdQsLhHj4feI1LoADkn99zj5FoooUQkuqIroPLWQ/viewform?ts=6327d20f&edit_requested=true>.
Thank you.

This survey is anonymous, but if you would like to leave your name and
email to be contacted by a counselor with questions or anything else,
please do so. Also, don't forget you can sign up for mental health
appointments in the Health Center using this link

Cursive Club

Would you like to be able to write an awesome letter in cursive and be able
to find old love letters your grandparents wrote to each other and actually
be able to read them?

Then you may be interested in learning Cursive ,or handwriting, as it's
also called. Cursive is cool looking, takes a lot of practice and patience
and is relaxing too. Plus, you can actually start understanding those
comments your teacher writes on your essay. Or study old documents in
college.

Cursive rules! If it was good enough for the Declaration of Independence,
it's good enough to give it a shot!

Come learn and practice Cursive even if you have zero experience, which is
probably the case since they stopped teaching it in school ages ago.
Practice cursive in Portable 3 every Thursday starting Sep. 29th 3:45 to
4:20

BCC/BHS Dual Enrolled Club

This club was created by high school students for high school students in
order to create a safe, supportive environment for those who are taking
classes at BCC through dual enrollment. The club has meetings every two
weeks at BCC from 4-5:30 so that students can interact with others who are
also taking dual enrollment classes. We know that navigating classes at
BCC, using Canvas, and being in a college setting for the first time can be
stressful, so this club is meant to be a supportive environment for
students going through the process.

Students don't even have to be dually enrolled yet, we can help with the
application process as well if anyone is interested in taking classes at
BCC but don't know how to start.

We would like to encourage any high school students at BHS to join. I am
attaching a flyer that was created for the club. Students can join the
discord server if interested, and if they have questions they can reach out
to Lale (founder): lalekurtulush at gmail.com or Reem:
reemmahmoud at students.berkeley.net

*Note that this club is not a Berkeley High club, it is a BCC club and
meets at Berkeley City College*

Notification of Non-Discrimination Policy

The Berkeley Unified School District is committed to providing a
hostile-free working and learning environment. The District prohibits
discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, and retaliation, based
on actual or perceived race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender,
gender identity/expression, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding/lactation
status (related medical conditions), religion, color, national origin
(including language restrictions and possession of a driver’s license
(issued under Vehicle Code), ancestry, immigration status, physical or
mental disability (including clinical depression and bipolar disorder,
HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, epilepsy, seizure disorder, diabetes, multiple
sclerosis, and heart attack), medical condition (cancer-related and genetic
characteristics), military and veteran status, marital status, registered
domestic partner status, age (40 and above), genetic information, political
belief or affiliation (unless union related), a person’s association with a
person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived
characteristics, or any other basis protected by federal, state or local
law, ordinance, or regulation in any program or activity it conducts or to
which it provides significant assistance.

Discrimination is different treatment based on a protected characteristic
in the context of an educational program, work or activity without a
legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason that interferes with or limits the
individual’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services,
activities, or privileges provided by the District or includes an adverse
employment action.

Hostile environment harassment occurs when a target is subjected to
unwelcome conduct based on a protected characteristic, which is both
subjectively offensive to the target and would be offensive to a reasonable
person of similar circumstances/characteristics and is sufficiently so
severe, and so pervasive to interfere with or limit an individual’s ability
to effectively work or to participate in or benefit from the services,
activities, or opportunities offered by the District. Harassment may take
many forms, including but not limited to, verbal remarks and name-calling,
graphic and written statements, or any conduct that may be threatening or
humiliating. Harassment based on any of the above protected categories is a
form of unlawful discrimination and will not be tolerated by the District
and can result in disciplinary action against the offending student or
employee.

Upon witnessing an act of discrimination, harassment, bullying,
intimidation, and retaliation, based on actual or perceived protected
characteristics, school personnel are required to take immediate steps to
intervene when it is safe to do so. Once a school/office has expressed
notice or reason to know of such conduct, whether carried out by employees,
students, or third parties, it should take immediate and appropriate steps
to investigate, determine what occurred, take prompt and effective steps
reasonably calculated to end the conduct, eliminate a hostile environment,
if one has been created and prevent the conduct from occurring again. These
steps should be taken regardless of whether an individual makes a complaint
or asks the school/office to take action. Complaints are protected from
retaliation. The District prohibits retaliation against any person who
files a complaint or an appeal, reports instances of noncompliance,
discrimination, harassment, bullying, and intimidation, or who participates
in the complaint-filing or investigation process. This nondiscriminatory
policy applies to all acts related to school activity or school attendance
within any school/office under the jurisdiction of the Berkeley Unified
School District.

For more information, or to file a complaint please contact:

District Title IX Coordinator/Compliance Officer Berkeley Unified School
District, 2020 Bonar Street, Room 117, Berkeley CA 94702 Phone: (510)
