How to monitor your child’s attendance on Infinite Campus
Please monitor your child’s attendance weekly on Infinite Campus. You can view their attendance and grades. You can log into the Infinite Campus website here <https://berkeleyca.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/parents/berkeley.jsp> or download the app here <https://www.berkeleyschools.net/check-grades-and-attendance/infinite-campus/>. If you need help getting into Infinite Campus, please contact leticiaamezcua at berkeley.net <mailto:cassandratesch at berkeley.net>
Suggestions on how to support healthy habits that promote attendance
Please support your child with healthy routines and habits to support positive attendance. This includes supporting a bedtime/sleep routine that supports student mental health and wellbeing so students are able to engage positively at school and beyond. Feel like your child needs support with mental health? Request counseling support here <https://cityofberkeley.jotform.com/203430685833052>.
Some Data on our attendance trends
Currently, we have an ADA (Average Daily Attendance) of 96%
We also are working to intervene early for students who have 2 or more cut classes and/or 30 or more unexcused absences. Please review your child’s attendance and ensure they do not go over the 30 period absence threshold as this will make them ineligible for schoolwide events and work permits. (Students with 30+ unexcused absences will be required to have a SART meeting, and if improvement doesn’t occur after this, then they will be referred to the district for a SARB hearing. )
Here is some data from the first 6 weeks of school:
Reminders about tutoring opportunities for students who need to make up unexcused absences
Students who have any unexcused absences, but specifically, those who are near or over 30 unexcused period absences or who have cut a class should take advantage of our Attendance Intervention Program. <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XYtApFss_cgD2DQpAJYlK6QVObrxnHdDuSRCLePXxeQ/edit> This is a program designed for students who want to improve their attendance record and get academic support. For each 1 hour of tutorials that students attend, they will receive 1 make-up absence on their account. Students can earn up to 12 make-up period absences per month. Remember, we have Saturday school from 9am to 12pm this Saturday October 1st in the M Building. All students who attend will receive 3 make-up period credits. Sign your student up here to RSVP s <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSffbd47ScdUvagwLnhC5FXna6GyPrtetkVieGVdrmOQppnqhQ/viewform>o we can plan for food.
How to excuse absences
The easiest and most effective method of clearing absences is to email attendanceoffice at berkeley.net <mailto:attendanceoffice at berkeley.net>
You have 5 days to clear an absence or it will not be excused. Make sure to include the student's full name, grade, dates of absence and reason for absence. Remember, that you must list a reason that falls under the legally excusable reasons per edcode:
Illness
Mandatory quarantine under the direction of a county or city health officer.
Medical appointments
For the purpose of attending funeral services
For the purpose of jury duty in the manner provided for by law for students 18 and over.
For justifiable personal reasons, including, but not limited to, an appearance in court, attendance at a funeral service, observance of a holiday or ceremony of the pupil’s religion, attendance at a religious retreat, attendance at an employment conference, or attendance at an educational conference on the legislative or judicial process offered by a nonprofit organization, when the pupil’s absence is requested in writing by the parent or guardian and approved by the principal or a designated representative pursuant to uniform standards established by the governing board of the school district.
For the purpose of spending time with a member of the pupil’s immediate family who is an active duty member of the uniformed services, as defined in Section 49701, and has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from, deployment to a combat zone or combat support position. Absences granted pursuant to this paragraph shall be granted for a period of time to be determined at the discretion of the superintendent of the school district.
Thank you,
