Dear BHS Students and families,

Today’s attendance email is about Cutting class, Excessive Absences and
Excessive Tardies. It will also review our school consequences for these
actions.

How do I know if my child has ever cut a class?

Log into Infinite Campus

and review your child’s attendance weekly.  A CUT may be recorded in two
ways.  You may see CUT if the teacher verified that the student cut the
class. In other cases, a teacher may not have known the student was on
campus that day and simply marked them absent, but parents will be able to
see the entire day’s record and note if there is an unexcused absence in
the middle of the day this is likely due to a cut class.   Here in another
example of what you might see on Infinite campus that indicates a cut class
without the word "CUT"

*CUTTING CLASS*

Cutting a class is defined as leaving any class *without permission.
*Permission
should be granted to students  in the form of a pass at all times.  It is
also defined as not going to a scheduled class during the day without
permission from another adult on campus or an excused absence from a
guardian.

*Why Attendance Matters*

Every minute of instruction matters.

*What happens if a student cuts class*

Teachers will write a referral for any student who cuts class. It will be
recorded on their attendance and students will be added to the No-go list
for school wide events

*What happens next?*

Once a student cuts class they will be assigned, via email, to our
Attendance Intervention Program (formerly known as Detention).  This is an
academic support intervention that allows students to get academic support.

*How will we know if students attended AIP?*

After a student attends their AIP session, the staff members email the
attendance office and the attendance office changes the student attendance
record to MAK (Make-up).  For each session a student attends, they will
receive one absence credit.  Here is what that symbol looks like on

*What about excessive tardies and absences?*

Students with more than 20 overall tardies in a month, or 3 or more
unexcused absences in a week will also be assigned to AIP.  Any student who
arrives more than 30 minutes late to a class is also added to AIP.  In
order to avoid having students accidentally assigned to AIP for should-be
excused absences, guardians must communicate with
attendanceoffice at berkeley.net within 5 days to excuse any absences.

*What happens if students DO NOT complete AIP?*

Students will be assigned to Saturday School, which will take places 9-12,
4 times per year.

*What is the information for AIP: Attendance Intervention Program?*

*CUT: “Falta a clase”*

Cortar una clase se define como dejar cualquier clase sin permiso. Se debe
otorgar permiso a los estudiantes en forma de pase en todo momento. También
se define como no asistir a una clase programada durante el día sin el
permiso de otro adulto en el campus o una ausencia justificada de los
padres..

*¿Porque es importante la asistencia?*

Cada minuto de instrucción es importante.

*¿Qué pasa si un estudiante falta a clase?*

Los maestros escribirán una referencia para cualquier estudiante que falte
a la clase a la administración.. Se registrará en su asistencia y los
estudiantes se agregarán a la lista de no poder ir a eventos escolares.

*¿Qué pasa después?*

Una vez que un estudiante deja la clase, se le asignará, por correo
electrónico, a nuestro Programa de intervención de asistencia
(anteriormente conocido como Detención). Esta es una intervención de apoyo
académico que permite a los estudiantes obtener apoyo académico.

*¿Cómo sabremos si los estudiantes asistieron a AIP?*

Después de que un estudiante asiste a su sesión AIP, los miembros del
personal envían un correo electrónico a la oficina de asistencia y la
oficina de asistencia cambia el registro de asistencia del estudiante a MAK
(recuperación). Por cada sesión a la que asista un estudiante, recibirá un
