Dear BHS Students and families please contact attendanceoffice at berkeley.net
to clear attendance. Do not respond directly to this email.

Here are some reminders about attendance
<https://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/parents/attendance/>:

The expectation at Berkeley High is that all students come to school on
time every day in order to maximize student learning.

Only in the case of excused absences should students not come to class.
Attendance is vital for academic achievement and for a healthy relationship
with school.

How do I get to school on time?

   -

   Please review our bell schedule
   <https://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/information/bell-schedule/> and always
plan to be here at least 10 minutes earlier to account for traffic.

On Monday mornings, school starts at 10:00, that is when the late bell
rings.

This means, students should be dropped off at least by 9:50 to have ample
time to get to class. All doors lock exactly at 10am. 10:01? Go to the
main office.

On Tuesday - Friday, School starts at 8:30. I recommend all students be
dropped off by 8:20 to have ample time to get to class. All doors lock at
8:30. 8:31? Go to the main office.

Remember, the four entrances for school are open before school and close
when the bell rings. Students who are not INSIDE the gates by the start of
school are considered tardy. On time = inside the classroom when the bell
rings. IF a student is late, they must go through the main office and
check in with their ID.

Bottom line? Let’s be on time! We can do this, Go Jackets!

   1.

   To excuse an absence

Email attendanceoffice at berkeley.net with the child’s name, dates of
absences and reason for absence. You have 5 days to submit the email. After
5 days, absences will not be excused and will count towards truancy. If
your child has covid, email covidcase at berkeley.net and copy the
attendance office on that email. NOTE - any student absent for the first 10
days of school without an excuse will be dropped from BHS.

   1.

   Tardy Polices

We need students to be on time to class, but we also know there are many
reasons why a student may arrive late with or without justifiable reasons.
Please note that tardies cannot be cleared because they are simply
timestamps that record the facts of the day. The only exception to this is
when a student is 30 minutes or more late to class, this is a truant
tardy. Parents can excuse these kinds of tardies due to doctors
appointments by emailing attendanceoffice at berkeley.net

   1.

   CUT Policy

Students who do not attend a scheduled class during the day and do not have
the period excused by a parent or other staff member will be considered to
have CUT the class. Cutting a class means that a student was on campus but
did not attend the scheduled class. Cutting a class is also defined as a
student who was present in the class and then left class without permission
and did not return to class before the bell rings. The consequence for
cutting a class is that students who cut classes may be put on the no-go
list for sporting events, homecoming, and may be assigned to lunch
detention and Saturday School.

   1.

   Saturday School

Students who have 30 or more unexcused period absences will be put on the
list for Saturday School. Students who cut more than 1 class will be put
on the list for Saturday School. Students with other behavioral infractions
may also be assigned Saturday School. Saturday School will happen 4 times a
year from 9-12. The first Saturday School will be October 1st, 2022.

   1.

   Healthy Habits

Please support your child with healthy routines and habits to support
positive attendance. This includes supporting a bedtime/sleep routine that
supports student mental health and wellbeing so students are able to engage
positively at school and beyond.

   1.

   Monitor your Child’s Attendance

Please monitor your child's attendance and academic performance weekly on
Infinite Campus. If you need support with accessing infinite campus,
please click on this resource here.

You can also email leticiaamezcua at berkeley.net for help with.

   1.

   Truancy

When a student has 3 or more unexcused period absences, they are considered
truant by law and families will be notified via US postal mail. Please make
sure we have your correct mailing address. Please make sure you excuse all
absences to avoid accidental truancy. If a student has 30 or more unexcused
period absences, they will receive a 2nd truancy letter. Students who
receive 2 truancy letters will be required to have a
student-parent-administrator meeting at Berkeley High. If improvement does
not happen after this meeting, students will be referred to SARB for legal
processing. To avoid this, please ensure that guardians excuse all absences
within 5 days and ensure students come to school daily and ontime, except
when sick.

   1.

   Work Permit/ PromAttendance Policy

Students who have 30 or more unexcused period absences will be put on the
NO work Permit list and NO prom list.

   1.

Improving Attendance, making up missed classes

Students who have 30 or more unexcused period absences can attend Saturday
School and after school tutorials to earn back their privileges of
obtaining a work permit and to attend prom.

   1.

Consequences for truancy. Students who have excessive tardies and/or
any cuts will be assigned to lunch detention on a weekly basis. Students
who do not attend lunch detention and/or have more than 1 cut, will be
   assigned to Saturday School.

Thank you and we look forward to a transformative and inspiring academic
year,

a clase.

<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yn1L18AlfZ-rjfDo_oehhiVCaE-SdYYL/view?usp=sharing>
