School Board Meeting Tonight & Join Youth Commission
There's a school board meeting this Wednesday at 7 pm. The zoom link can be found on the school board's website or in the link tree in the bio of @ianschoolboard on instagram. Students, come during public comment to speak about pressing issues in the district.

Additionally, the Berkeley Youth commission needs your help to get a student voice on the new Environmental and Climate Commission. This new commission focuses on addressing climate change and a youth voice will be essential. To show support, sign the petition or send letters to the Berkeley City Council through the link in @ianschoolboard instagram bio. You can also come to the board meetings and speak in support.

Here are this week’s home games.

On Wednesday, August 24 < < < correction from Monday’s bulletin.
Girls Volleyball sets and spikes on Deer Valley with the Freshman serving game at 3:45 in the Donahue, followed by JV at 4:30 and Varsity at 5:45 pm. 
On Thursday, August 25
Girls Tennis heads back to the Hearst Tennis Courts at 3:45 to drop it in on Mission High from San Jose.
And on Friday night, August 26
The Yellow Jacket Football team and the Cheer Squad take on Miramonte. JV kicks off at 4:30 followed by Varsity at 7:00 pm.

Join the MultiCultural Student Association

Are you interested in learning more about your own culture as well as others?
If so, join the multicultural student association (MCSA) Meeting every other Friday starting September 9th in C231. In addition to gaining a deeper understanding about different identities, there will also be fun games and potluck! We will be hosting a mixed race/multi cultural panel in the spring where speakers will answer many questions revolving around a common thing. Hope to see you there.

Still Space in Digital Sound Engineering
This course will start as one EXT section in H214 and move to the beautiful new purpose built Sound Engineering Lab in the A building in the Spring. Students who enroll will have access to this amazing deeply experienced teacher and industry standard equipment and software. We have space for up to 15 students in the pilot.

Join 9th Grade Leadership
Hey Class of 2026, Rep your hive! Even if you have not thought of yourself as a leader, you should consider adding your name to the 9th Grade Leadership Lottery. Instead of an election or interview, ASB Leadership will be conducting a lottery to select one representative from each Hive and an additional five students from any hive. 
Over the course of the fall semester as a team, you will work on a team fundraiser, decide on an activity where you will spend those funds, and collaborate on a 9th grade community campaign. We hope that many of you in the Class of 2026 will enter into this Leadership Lottery starting today up until the deadline of September 5th. The team will be selected on September 7th.

Notification of Non-Discrimination Policy
The Berkeley Unified School District is committed to providing a hostile-free working and learning environment. Discrimination is different treatment based on a protected characteristic in the context of an educational program, work or activity without a legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason that interferes with or limits the individual’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by the District or includes an adverse employment action.

Hostile environment harassment occurs when a target is subjected to unwelcome conduct based on a protected characteristic, which is both subjectively offensive to the target and would be offensive to a reasonable person of similar circumstances/characteristics and is sufficiently so severe, and so pervasive to interfere with or limit an individual’s ability to effectively work or to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or opportunities offered by the District. Harassment may take many forms, including but not limited to, verbal remarks and name-calling, graphic and written statements, or any conduct that may be threatening or humiliating. Harassment based on any of the above protected categories is a form of unlawful discrimination and will not be tolerated by the District and can result in disciplinary action against the offending student or employee.

Upon witnessing an act of discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, and retaliation, based on actual or perceived protected characteristics, school personnel are required to take immediate steps to intervene when it is safe to do so. Once a school/office has expressed notice or reason to know of such conduct, whether carried out by employees, students, or third parties, it should take immediate and appropriate steps to investigate, determine what occurred, take prompt and effective steps reasonably calculated to end the conduct, eliminate a hostile environment, if one has been created and prevent the conduct from occurring again. These steps should be taken regardless of whether an individual makes a complaint or asks the school/office to take action. Complaints are protected from retaliation. The District prohibits retaliation against any person who files a complaint or an appeal, reports instances of noncompliance, discrimination, harassment, bullying, and intimidation, or who participates in the complaint-filing or investigation process. This nondiscriminatory policy applies to all acts related to school activity or school attendance within any school/office under the jurisdiction of the Berkeley Unified School District.
