Good Morning Cafe
Check out their video in the video bulletin
Let’s hear from our friends at the Good Morning Cafe, which plans to start
this Friday between 1st and 2nd period at a few locations across campus.
Come support the Homebase students and get yourself a pick-me-up between
classes. They plan to sell items in front of the C-Building, G/H Building,
Campus Green, & their home classroom of H-106.

Prom Royalty Form
Seniors and juniors: I hope you’re all very excited for prom this year! As
per tradition, we will have two Prom Royals. Voting will take place at
prom. They must be seniors and have no suspensions from the last quarter.
Is someone coming to mind? Nominate them for Senior Prom Royalty this year!
To do this, you must fill out the nomination form and either send it to
Mr. V electronically (to the email johnvillavicencio at berkeley.net) or
submit it to the leadership office! Please do this ASAP! The due date to

Berkeley High Historical Exploration Society
The Berkeley High Historical Exploration Society would like to welcome you
to join its club. The club will explore a variety of historical subjects
through research and projects of members' choice, including but not limited
to: models, maps, cooking, short stories, and art. While their name is a
bit snobby, they are not, and all are welcome. They meet in C317 (Ms.
Rodriguez's room) at 3:45 on Wednesdays. If you are interested in history
or just feel like wielding a hot glue gun, come by!

Teen Reproductive Justice Program
The Teen Reproductive Justice Program is having its second meeting this
sunday. In the program, participants will be part of a community based on
shared values of collaboration, trust, and support, gaining skills and
tools to become stronger leaders and advocate for rights. They will be
joined by Dr. Shannon Connolly this weekend to speak about reproductive
health and will be sharing real life case studies about teenage patients
around the country and will be explaining the issues that are found in
reproductive health. Dr. Connolly is the President of the California
Academy of Family Physicians and the Associate Medical Director at Melody
Health in Orange County.
The meeting will take place on zoom on sunday from 10-11 am.

BLOOD DRIVE on MARCH 24
Berkeley High is proud to partner with the American Red Cross and be a part
of all they do for our community. Our blood drive is important to patients
in need, but the collection and distribution of blood is just a small part
of all the Red Cross does.
Our next drive is at the Donahue Gym on Thursday, March 24th, 2022 from
8:00-2:00pm. Please consider donating blood and/or sharing this information
with your friends and families!
Please also remember that you have to make an appointment beforehand.
Parent consent form is required for 16 and 17 years old.

Cultural Club Fair March 11
Staff, students, and all are invited to the CAMPUS GREEN during lunch on
MARCH 11th to celebrate all the different cultures of berkeley high. We are
encouraging everyone to show off their cultural clothes during this
event/day. This event is organized by ASB and MCSA. To know more

Hey BHS, are you interested in joining a BHS Jazz band for next year?
Our jazz bands are open to students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone,
guitar, bass, piano and drums, at least on an intermediate level.

Did you love International Muffin Day?
On March 15th, International Muffin Day Club will be holding another
International Muffin Day! We know it will be a lot of work, and we will
need lots of people to help us bake muffins. If you want to sign up for
International Muffin Day Club, or want to bake muffins for International

Prom Ticket sales update & Health Check Update
These guidelines are subject to change.
You have your prom tickets. You have your friend groups ready to go. You
have your outfit. You have your matching well-fitting mask. Do you have
your vaccination card ready?
To enter the SF Galleria all guests will need to show proof that you are
‘vaccinated with a complete initial series’ or a negative test before
entering. ‘Vaccinated with a complete initial series’ means two weeks
removed from the final dose of a CDC‐approved vaccine. You can show the CDC
card, a photo of the card, or a digital copy of the card as long as the
name, vaccination date, and type of vaccine are clearly visible.
For Guests not up to date with their covid vaccination, including the
unvaccinated and those who are less than two weeks from having received
their 2nd dose, they must provide proof of a negative result from a
COVID‐19 test administered within 24 hours. At the door, you could show a
printed document or digital record (text, email, app screen, etc.) of the
negative test results, which should include the individual’s name, date of
birth, and date of when the test was taken. Physical tests will not be
accepted as proof of a negative test result.

8:00 pm – 11:30 pm. Doors close at 9:30pm - No in & out privileges for any
reason.
A Starry Night plans to be a memorable evening with the city skyline as a
beautiful backdrop. Guests can expect sweet or savory crepes, unlimited
beverages, and free photobooth pictures. Guests will also have access to
professional photography at an extra cost.
Prom Policy: In order to attend prom, students should not be involved in
conduct that violates education code and school rules from February 1-March
18. If there is a violation of the education code and school rules you will
be excluded from prom. In December, the attendance office sent students who
have 30+ unexcused absences a letter home notifying them that they cannot
attend Senior Prom.
-You can earn yourself off the prom exclusion list by showing improvement
in your attendance. You will need to complete a 2-week attendance that
you can pick up from the attendance office. You must have no unexcused
period absences or CUTs during your 2 week attendance card and it must be
completed before March 11th, the end of quarter 3. You can attend tutoring
in the College and Career Center or through teacher tutorials and complete
the attached Unexcused Absence Clearance Form to clear up to 12 unverified
absences from the previous month. If you can get your unexcused absences
count under 30, you will be removed from the Prom Exclusion list. Please

Covid Vaccination Status: Berkeley High Prom is taking place in the city of
San Francisco. We need to have all attendees comply with the BUSD Board
Policy* around vaccination status which states that proof of vaccination
shall be required for attendance for any person age 12 or over at any
indoor extracurricular BUSD event. For those not up to date on
vaccinations, please plan to test on-campus on Friday, March 18. You will
be allowed entry into prom with proof of a negative test. See venue policy
for details

Cafeteria at lunch & after school.

Please understand that there will not be refunds issued for prom if you are
unable to attend, or get removed from the event. By purchasing the ticket
you are agreeing to abide by the rules of Berkeley High, Berkeley Unified
School District, The Galleria venue and the city of San Francisco.
Discounted Tickets: To purchase discounted tickets at $30, BHS students who
qualify for free & reduced meals must purchase tickets in person. The price
will be $30 for the entire duration of sales. Students must show a photo of
your current school year eligibility letter from B.U.S.D. Nutrition
Services to verify eligibility. Please see page 4 of the senior letter for
details on how to qualify.
Guest Passes & Dance Conduct: Non-BHS Guest Pass Forms must be submitted
at time of purchase. Only guests 20 years of age or younger will be
admitted to Prom. The last day Guest Pass Forms are accepted will be March

Security: All guests will pass through a security screening. Please do not
bring large overnight bags, gum, food or beverage, drugs, weapons, among
other illegal items. Contact Mr. V if you have a dietary need,
prescription, or other need that may fall on the prohibited item list.
Sobriety: For your safety, any guest suspected of being under the influence
or in possession of an illegal or controlled substance, either when
arriving or during the Prom, will have their parents/guardians notified and
will be required to leave the premises. Parents/Guardians will be
responsible for picking the student up as all school policies and
subsequent consequences will be enforced. Let’s have a joyous and safe
celebration!

Complete the Free & Reduced Meals Form for Discounts
Families should complete an EZ Meal App <http://secure.ezmealapp.com/> in
order to receive benefits under the free & reduced lunch program. If
determined to qualify, students can receive discounts to school events
(prom, graduation, etc.) among other testing discounts if they have
completed forms on file with B.U.S.D. Once determined to qualify for free &
reduced meals, Nutrition Services will send a paper copy of the eligibility
letter to the home mailing address. To receive the discount, this paper
copy or digital photo of the eligibility letter will be shown to school
officials overseeing the school event. Families can also request an
eligibility letter if they completed the Alternative Income Form at
registration.
If a household needs another letter they should contact Sara Leon either
through saraleon at berkeley.net or nutritionservices at berkeley.net. This
information is protected by right to privacy so we are not able to provide
this information to minors or someone other than the head of household.
Requests can be made by phone 510.644.6200 or through email, or by US mail
2020 Bonar Street, Suite 1, Berkeley CA, 94702. Nutrition Services require
up to three days to process their request as these do not tend to come in
one at a time.

Notification of Non-Discrimination Policy
The Berkeley Unified School District is committed to providing a
hostile-free working and learning environment. The District prohibits
discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, and retaliation, based
on actual or perceived race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender,
gender identity/expression, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding/lactation
status (related medical conditions), religion, color, national origin
(including language restrictions and possession of a driver’s license
(issued under Vehicle Code), ancestry, immigration status, physical or
mental disability (including clinical depression and bipolar disorder,
HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, epilepsy, seizure disorder, diabetes, multiple
sclerosis, and heart attack), medical condition (cancer-related and genetic
characteristics), military and veteran status, marital status, registered
domestic partner status, age (40 and above), genetic information, political
belief or affiliation (unless union related), a person’s association with a
person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived
characteristics, or any other basis protected by federal, state or local
law, ordinance, or regulation in any program or activity it conducts or to
which it provides significant assistance.
Discrimination is different treatment based on a protected characteristic
in the context of an educational program, work or activity without a
legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason that interferes with or limits the
individual’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services,
activities, or privileges provided by the District or includes an adverse
employment action.
Hostile environment harassment occurs when a target is subjected to
unwelcome conduct based on a protected characteristic, which is both
subjectively offensive to the target and would be offensive to a reasonable
person of similar circumstances/characteristics and is sufficiently so
severe, and so pervasive to interfere with or limit an individual’s ability
to effectively work or to participate in or benefit from the services,
activities, or opportunities offered by the District. Harassment may take
many forms, including but not limited to, verbal remarks and name-calling,
graphic and written statements, or any conduct that may be threatening or
humiliating. Harassment based on any of the above protected categories is a
form of unlawful discrimination and will not be tolerated by the District
and can result in disciplinary action against the offending student or
employee.
Upon witnessing an act of discrimination, harassment, bullying,
intimidation, and retaliation, based on actual or perceived protected
characteristics, school personnel are required to take immediate steps to
intervene when it is safe to do so. Once a school/office has expressed
notice or reason to know of such conduct, whether carried out by employees,
students, or third parties, it should take immediate and appropriate steps
to investigate, determine what occurred, take prompt and effective steps
reasonably calculated to end the conduct, eliminate a hostile environment,
if one has been created and prevent the conduct from occurring again. These
steps should be taken regardless of whether an individual makes a complaint
or asks the school/office to take action. Complaints are protected from
retaliation. The District prohibits retaliation against any person who
files a complaint or an appeal, reports instances of noncompliance,
discrimination, harassment, bullying, and intimidation, or who participates
in the complaint-filing or investigation process. This nondiscriminatory
policy applies to all acts related to school activity or school attendance
within any school/office under the jurisdiction of the Berkeley Unified
School District.
