[BHS Etree] BHS ADMIN: Twice-Weekly School Covid Testing for Elevated Risk Notification

Dear Berkeley High School Community,

Berkeley High School is experiencing an elevated COVID-19 risk during the Omicron surge. Working with our Public Health partners at the City of Berkeley, we are shifting our case response focus to twice-weekly school-wide testing of students and staff and community-wide COVID risk notifications, rather than individual exposure letters for students. 

BHS Principal Juan Raygoza will be sending a more detailed message regarding a new schedule starting next week that aims at increasing the number of students and staff we are testing. In short: 

We will be testing all Berkeley High School students and staff on the following dates:

On Monday, January 24th testing will be available from 8:15-9:30am (before school) and from 12:30-1:00pm (lunch time) at the Jacket Stadium ticket booth.

Staff can also still access testing Monday, January 24th and Tuesday, January 25th from 2:30-5:00pm.

Student-athletes should continue to follow their regular schedule until further notice. Students in grades 9th and 12th can also still access testing on Tuesday, January 25th from 3:30-5:00pm.

Beginning Wednesday, January 26th Berkeley High School will begin testing students during the school day (we are planning to minimize class disruptions) and also offer staff testing during the work day.

Most Berkeley High School students and staff are already registered for BUSD’s free COVID-19 testing. Anyone not registered for testing can register here <https://my.primary.health/l/berkeley_usd>. This is one-time registration only. It is not necessary to register for each test date.

This twice-weekly testing will  provide a faster and more efficient way of identifying students and staff who have COVID at Berkeley High School, which will slow the spread of COVID at our school. 

In the last seven days, 85 COVID-19 cases have been identified as having been on campus while infectious. We will continue to watch our case numbers and, in consultation with the City of Berkeley Health Department, make a determination about the pace of future testing.

A partir del miércoles 26 de enero, Berkeley High School comenzará a evaluar a los estudiantes durante la jornada escolar (planeamos minimizar las interrupciones en clase) y también ofrecerá evaluaciones al personal durante la jornada laboral.

La mayoría de los estudiantes y el personal docente en la Escuela Berkeley High School están ya inscritos para la prueba gratuita COVID-19 en BUSD. Cualquier persona que no esté inscrito para recibir la prueba puede inscribirse aquí <https://my.primary.health/l/berkeley_usd>. Esta es una inscripción única. No es necesario que se inscriba para cada fecha de la prueba.

Esta prueba, la cual se realiza dos veces por semana, ofrecerá una forma más rápida y eficaz de identificar a los estudiantes y al personal docente que tienen COVID en la Escuela Berkeley High School, lo cual disminuirá la propagación del COVID en nuestra escuela. 

Durante los últimos siete días, 85 casos de COVID-19 han sido identificados de haber estado en el plantel escolar mientras estaban bajo el periodo de infección. Seguiremos observando el número de casos y, en coordinación con el Departamento de Salud del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Berkeley, tomaremos una decisión acerca del ritmo de las futuras pruebas.
