Hello BHS Community,
I want to provide you with information about a social media post that came
to the attention of my administration team today and let you know how we
handled it.
Near the end of the school day, a student came to inform Ms. Gonzalez, Dean
of Students, that they saw a snapchat referencing a threat to a "BHS BMS."
The student was unable to give us more information. The post did not
identify Berkeley High School. Ms. Gonzalez immediately notified me and I
contacted our School Resource Officer, Geoff Mitchell, who arrived at my
office right away. We identified a second student who we wanted to speak
with. We brought them in and gathered information that led us to contact
another school's administration. Our goal was to identify the source of the
original post and determine whether it represented a real threat to
Berkeley High School.
Very soon after, law enforcement officials were able to determine that the
social media post originated in the East Coast and that there was not a
threat to Berkeley High School.
The Berkeley Police Department did assign additional patrols to the school
perimeter as a precaution while we investigated the social media post.
We know that students might be circulating the post and may talk about it
tomorrow at school and hope that this information provides clarity on the
issue.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Gracias.
