*WHAT HAVE YOUR DONATIONS FUNDED RECENTLY? *

Your giving to BHSDG funds after-school tutoring, classroom supplies,
software, teacher professional development, technology, college-application
support, and many other activities. Without your donations, the BHS
experience would simply not be the same. Highlights of grants funded at our
first meeting of the 2021-22 school year on August 30 include these
programs benefiting students:

*Multilingual Program Constructing Meaning curriculum units ($361). *Your
support last year helped teachers in the Multilingual Program purchase two
units of the "Constructing Meaning" curriculum, which is designed to offer
academic language support for English Language Learners. This new grant
will pay for additional units, with the goal of helping all students
achieve full English proficiency.

*Street Level Data Course ($400). *As part of ongoing anti-racist
professional development, BHS teachers created an equitable grading
framework to better support achievement for students of color. This grant
will support this work by allowing one teacher to enroll in a course taught
by an education reform advocate. The course is designed to help teachers
center student experience when grading in addition to elements that are
typically measured, like grades or attendance; and the participating
teacher will share course content and lessons with fellow teachers.

*Girls' Support Group ($400). * This funding will create a support group
for girls at Berkeley High to help them in all aspects of their lives and
assist them with navigating a range of life issues like relationships,
college, coping skills, jobs, money, and school.

*Creating AAPI History Curriculum ($2,500).* Global History and Theory of
Knowledge teacher Le Tran will research and design the curriculum for an
Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) History course. This project was
undertaken in response to student requests for a more thorough study of
AAPI origins, cultures, experiences, and impacts on US history. The goal is
to deepen knowledge of AAPI history and related content and to support and
foster the growth of our AAPI students and community at BHS.

*Berkeley High Robotics Team ($5,703).* The BHS Robotics team will
purchase a new CNC machine for the Robotics lab. This will give the
Robotics team and students in Robotics and other classes access to two CNC
machines. These machines cut metal more easily than standard tools and
create more efficiency in the build process. Most importantly, BHS students
will have access to advanced machining tools and can acquire valuable
skills and experience.

*Skateboard Workshop ($2,870).* The CTE Engineering and Carpentry programs
will offer two semester-long after-school or weekend workshops in which
students will design and build their own skateboard under the guidance of
CTE teacher Dirk Wright and using equipment and materials from the
Engineering and Carpentry classes. This workshop is designed for students
who are underrepresented in engineering/trades and might not otherwise sign
up for a full-year course in one of these departments.
