*Fire Alarm Policy*

In the last couple weeks, we’ve had 3 incidents where individuals have
pulled fire alarms. When an alarm is pulled, all 3,000+ members of the
Berkeley High community must evacuate from their spaces.

This is a serious disruption to student learning and a massive sign of
disrespect to the primary emergency responders, the Berkeley Fire
Department, who must check on the status of the alarm. If it is found that
there is no emergency, then school wide cameras are reviewed to identify
the individual(s) who pulled the alarm.

All individuals that purposefully pull an alarm will immediately meet with
an administrator and receive disciplinary consequences which can include:

   - Meeting with administrator and guardian (Automatic)
   - Re-entry meeting with City of Berkeley Fire Department representative
as well as with BHS community members most impacted by evacuation
   - Payment for any associated costs to damaged stations
   - In- or out of school-suspension

Our priority is to keep students and staff safe on campus. We want to
maintain an engaged and active learning environment for everyone. Please
only take emergency action when there is an actual emergency.

Thank you for your attention and have a great day Berkeley High.
