INCOMING 9TH GRADE ORIENTATION
Welcome to Berkeley High School Class of 2025! On Friday, August 13 we invite the incoming 9th grade class to get oriented as a new member of the Jacket family. You can expect to meet a lot of classmates as you receive a campus tour, learn about your classes, and take a school I.D. photo with the support of two upperclassmen Link Leaders. You will not pick up your textbooks on this date. We are tentatively planning for a club fair near the M-Gym with the Ecology Center present to distribute water bottles to the entire Class of 2025 . The orientation will last around 60-90 minutes.

Please head to Jacket Stadium through the gates along Milvia Street at Bancroft. We will host small groups of 9th graders by Last Name according to the schedule below. If you are a 10th, 11th, or 12th grader and new to Berkeley High School, then consider attending an orientation session with fellow upperclassmen Link Leaders. They will accompany you on a campus tour, host a conversation about BHS features, and lead you to the make-up registration, if needed. Please send an email to johnvillavicencio at berkeley.net <mailto:johnvillavicencio at berkeley.net> to sign up for this orientation. There will be two groups at 10:00 am and 10:30 am on Thursday, August 12th.
*If you are a returning 10th BHS grader from 2020-21, then please know that student leaders will host a table on your registration day for any questions and offer campus tours.

Frequently Asked Questions
As a 10th-12th grader, what do I need to bring to registration?
You should bring your student ID number and a bag or backpack. At registration, you will stop by the M-Gym to take a school ID photo ID and grab a school planner from the BHS Development Group. In the Jacket Gym, you will pick up your textbooks, learn about the Health Center or Nutrition Services and possibly request a locker. Your schedule will be made available electronically during registration week.

What forms do I need to complete?
All necessary forms for Nutrition Services & the EZ Meal App <https://www.berkeleyschools.net/departments/nutrition-services/>, Course Change Requests (sent at a later date by the academic counselors) and accessing the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus will be available online <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Eiqdl35weDrvYgO0sAli5Ly3hxtB9aJIzREKMMZOoTk/edit?usp=sharing>.

Can I purchase school photos before OR after registration week?
Visit Mylifetouch.com <http://mylifetouch.com/> for information on 2021-22 LifeTouch School Photos
To browse and purchase packages before your Photo Day <https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/pictureDayId/EVTQV8KDN>.
To purchase packages after Photo Day, you will need a Portrait ID from the order form.  <https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/>

As a 9th grader, what do I need to bring to orientation?
You should bring yourself and maybe a bag or backpack to the Jacket Stadium during your assigned time on Friday, August 13. The Ecology Center and a few student clubs are tentatively scheduled to host a club fair where they may distribute items. Your schedule will be made available electronically during registration week. Please note that you will not receive any textbooks at orientation so you may not have a need to bring a bag or backpack.

Will there be an orientation for the incoming 10th graders since they didn’t have orientation in 2020?
We understand that there is a desire for this class to get more familiar with the campus after not having spent much time here. Student leaders will host a table on the Wednesday, August 11th registration day for Sophomores to ask questions and receive a campus tour. We will also remind teacher leaders about the interest of this class to get more closely connected.

If I will miss registration week, what do I need to do?
We understand that not everyone will return in time. There are make-up school ID photo dates scheduled for August 18 and August 25 during lunch and after school in the BHS Cafeteria. You will be able to access your class schedule online and should attend your courses as listed. If you need textbooks, your teachers will help guide you to the textbook room and in some cases, will take the entire class during the period. If you need more help, please check in at the entrance gates with an adult or student leader upon your arrival. Please refer to the BHS main website for more details like bell schedule, campus map, etc… <https://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/>
How do I get a locker?
First, if you had a locker during the 2019-20 school year that you have not yet cleared out, you must clear out your locker during registration week on your designated registration day. Any locks still remaining on lockers after August 13th will be cut off and items inside will be thrown away.
After all available lockers are cleared, there will be a process for requesting a locker with OCI. We will share more details about lockers during the first week of school.

When is the first day of school?
*Classes start on Monday, August 16th at 9:57 am. Please note that there is no “0” period on this first day of school.

If I am a parent and guardian, where do I find out about school events, activities, and news?
Please refer to the BHS main website for more details like bell schedule, campus map, etc… <https://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/> In addition, please consider signing up for the BHS e-Tree for announcements. <https://bhs.berkeleyschools.net/parents/berkeley-high-e-tree/>
