Hello 11th grade families,
Next week is the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). Please see details about your dates in the message below. A couple other quick updates -
Health Screener
Please remember to complete the Daily Health Screener <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdtsYuS1F7k5EyC6LAtPPRLMBkB_0lm8pded7rwQb61kU6XOg/viewform> EVERY day BEFORE coming to campus. If you answer YES to either question (symptoms and/or close contact), please stay home. If you forget, when you arrive on campus you will see QR codes posted near the gates. If you have a cell phone, take a picture of the code, complete the form, and show it to an adult while walking through the gate. However, please note that this may delay you entering campus.
Lunch Options
Students will have a 40-minute break for lunch, staggered amongst testing groups. Students have 3 options for lunch -
Bring your own lunch. You can eat at the designated time on the Campus Green or off-campus.
Buy lunch in downtown Berkeley.
Eat lunch provided by BUSD Nutrition Services. Grab-and-Go lunch will be available for pick-up Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the glass doors on Kittredge and Miliva. If you are testing on Tuesday or Thursday, you can pick up lunch on Monday or Wednesday. More information can be found here <https://www.berkeleyschools.net/departments/nutrition-services/meal-program-2020-21/>.
Thank you,
Carrie Berg

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):
For the 2021 spring administration of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), also known as the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA), for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics, Berkeley High School will be administering the assessments to 11th grade students the week of June 7. This year we have permission to offer the assessment after the school year ends, in order to minimize impact on instruction. Our priority is to keep our students and educators safe by following state, county, and local health and safety requirements associated with the current pandemic.
The CAASPP is an important opportunity for our students to demonstrate academic achievements, possibly earning placement in UC/CSU courses, the State Seal of Biliteracy, the Golden State Seal Merit, or Reclassified Fluent English Proficient.
While you have the right to submit a signed exemption for specific tests to the Berkeley High School Office, we strongly encourage your student’s participation. The CAASPP is one piece of information helping us make decisions to improve our school programs. If you would like to exempt your student, you must email Carrie Berg (carrieberg at berkeley.net <mailto:carrieberg at berkeley.net>) with your student’s name, ID #, and the exams from which you would like them to be excused; we will verify that this is the guardian email address we have on file.
Please see your 11th grade student’s assigned test time by finding their last name in the table below:

*CAASPP is untimed. Students may leave once they have finished their exam. The time estimate given to complete both exams is 5 hours and 30 minutes. Students will have a 30-minute window to eat lunch. If students need more time, they may return the following day to complete their exam. If a student is not able to make their assigned date, we will be offering a make-up date on Monday, June 14th; it will also begin at 9AM, with students meeting at the M-Gate.
If you have any questions, please email Carrie Berg at carrieberg at berkeley.net <mailto:carrieberg at berkeley.net>.
Sincerely,
Juan Raygoza
Principal, Berkeley High School
