Dear Math 1 students,

Are you a current Math 1 student who is interested in taking Advanced Math 2 next year? If you earn an A in the second semester of Math 1, then you are eligible to begin the placement process to move to Advanced Math 2.

There are three required steps in the process:

1) Earn an A in the second semester of Math 1.
2) Complete and submit all supplemental summer coursework.
3) Demonstrate strong conceptual understanding and skill mastery on the Mathematical Reasoning and Communication Assessment in early August.

If you fulfill requirements #1 and #2 and are interested in placing in Advanced Math 2, you must complete and submit the summer coursework in August. The summer coursework consists of two and a half modules from the Math 2 curriculum. We will contact Math 1 teachers when the packets are available at the Milvia/Kittredge breezeway at BHS.

On Monday, August 9th, you will have an opportunity to take the Mathematical Reasoning and Communication Assessment (MRCA). The MRCA will be given at BHS. Please sign up on the Google Form <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1L2874-Ucu_H-aeDCZRqjV1iXGyq6yNrQUpkc5L-tXtQ/edit>. We will contact you with additional details regarding the test time and procedure.

This process is the last entry point into the advanced math sequence. Students who are placed in Math 2 will not have an opportunity to place into Advanced Math 3.

Please see the attached FAQ <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HBAjyMo8AqBKBa1Hw0djjkKfKcvoy9G9KS6mCE9M3Is/> for more information about the process for going from Math 1 to Advanced Math 2.
