*News from the Berkeley High School Development Group*

*February 2021*

Read on to learn more about the vital programs that your donations to BHSDG
have funded during these COVID-challenged times, as well as the many ways
you can get involved and invest in strengthening our school.

*FUNDRAISING UPDATES*

*It's Not Too Late to Give! *Please take a moment to donate to BHSDG online
<http://bhsdg.org/wp/give/>. Your gift will fund enrichment activities,
technology for distance learning, community building, professional
development, and more. Your support is more important than ever to keep
these and other dynamic programs alive for Berkeley High School students.
To learn more about our work, please see BHSDG's 2019-2020 annual report
<http://bhsdg.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Annual-Report_2020_Final_lowres.pdf>
.

*Get Involved with BHSDG.* We are looking for new board members who bring
new perspectives and ideas for strengthening the educational experience of
all Berkeley High students. We particularly need to add members with
expertise in database management and website development. If you are
interested in learning more about the board, please join us at our *next
monthly online meeting 7-9 pm on March 1*, or reach out at info at bhsdg.org.

*WHAT HAVE YOUR DONATIONS FUNDED RECENTLY? *

Your giving to BHSDG funds software and teacher professional development to
improve the distance-learning experience, Chromebooks, classroom supplies,
guest lectures, after-school tutoring, college-application support, and
many other activities. Without your donations, the BHS experience would
simply not be the same. Highlights of grants funded at our meeting in
February include these programs benefiting students:

*African American Studies: Black Voices for Black Students $1200.* Students
in Mr. Miller’s African American Literature class will attend an audio
performance of Aurora Theater's The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison. They will
also experience a pre-play and post-play Q&A with the actors.

*BHS Grading for Equity PD Grant $3000. *Your donations will help 30
teachers attend a 2-day training on equitable grading. Taught by author Joe
Feldman, (“Grading for Equity”), the training will cover the three pillars
of equitable grading: accuracy, bias-resistance, and intrinsic motivation
and is based on the premise that “grades must accurately reflect only a
student’s academic level of performance, (and) exclude nonacademic criteria
(such as behavior).”

*HOW YOU CAN HELP*

*Donate.* Donate online at http://bhsdg.org/wp/give/
<http://bhsdg.org/wp/give/>, or via check payable to BHSDG, P.O. Box 519,

gift program that could double your donation. You can also donate stock by
