BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT BULLETIN

2020-2021 ASB Leadership

One big, red & gold family!

Felix Mousigian, Chief of Publicity

Aaron Rumph, Chief of Publicity

Mr. V, Director of Student Activities

Week of February 1st

Here is an update from the BHS Supply Center:

We are open every Tuesday from 1:30 - 3:30 to distribute textbooks, novels,
readers, materials, or whatever. This is ongoing until the end of the year.
At the first week of each term we will add an additional distribution day
on a Thursday. The Library Team (Ms. Rosenkrantz, Ms. Irby, and Ms.
Fitzhugh) will also be open in the same location on Thursdays to hand out
library books and the like. Remember to visit the BHS Library catalog
<https://sites.google.com/berkeley.net/bhslibrary> and place hold there
first in order to start the process.

The big change is that we are moving INSIDE! We will be set up at the glass
doors of the breezeway. Students in cars can park on Milvia and walk to the
doors, and students on foot or on bikes can just come straight to the
doors.

Can't make it? Request a TASK RUNNER

.

Contact the Library Team if you have any questions.

Unraveling the Mysteries of the Standard Model with Particle Physics -
Lecture by Christian Bauer

What: Physics Lecture

When: Friday, February 5, 2021

Time: 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time

About: Three of the 4 fundamental forces (all except gravity) are explained
incredibly well by a beautiful theory called the Standard Model. Despite
its great success, the Standard Model fails to explain several important
phenomena, such as the existence of dark matter and the fact that we
observe no anti-particles in our everyday lives. What's wrong?

Group in the Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He
has recently been working on ways to use Quantum Computing to solve
difficult computational problems in particle physics.

Every meal counts!

That’s why we’re excited to bring Meatless Mondays to Berkeley Schools!
Meatless Monday is a global movement that encourages people to reduce their
meat consumption by not eating meat on Mondays, something that we would
love to inspire in our Berkeley community. Starting on the 25th, we’ll be
sharing information about how eating less meat can make a difference for
our earth, our animals, and our bodies. Check out our daily posts on the
leadership Instagram, @Juicethejackets, and look out for Meatless Mondays
starting February 6th. Join us in bettering our world one meat-free meal at
a time!

 Stay tuned, and stay sustainable!

Not Cool!

Hey Jackets, did you know that tobacco use is NOT an equal opportunity
killer? There are 10 times more tobacco and smoking ads in primarily Black
neighborhoods, making tobacco closer and easier to access for young African
Americans. Tobacco use contributes to the top three leading causes of death
for African Americans: heart disease, cancer, and stroke.

Big tobacco has had its sights on the Black community for decades, and with
racial bias already influencing health outcomes, they are adding injury to
insult!
