Dear Juniors, Class of 2022 and Families:
Welcome Back to school for 2021. We hope you are safe and coping with the
events of the week. Your teachers, counselors, or other BHS staff are
available for any kind of support you need.
The College & Career Center (CCC) staff is ready to plan for the Class of
2022. We do not know when we will return to campus, so we are planning for
services in the Distance Learning Plan.
Here is a tentative timeline for Spring 2021 for Juniors:
Late January- February: College Counselors will join Junior classes for
presentations of the College Application Process.
February-May: Advising Appointments 1:1 with College Counselors: Please
wait patiently for Sign Up details to follow later. Counselors are still
serving the Class of 2021 as they prepare for graduation and college
enrollment.
March-May: Workshops and Webinars on many aspects of the College
Application Process, including College Search, Writing UC Personal Insight
Questions or Common Application Personal Statements, Financial Aid and
more. Parents/Guardians to be invited to some of the evening meetings.
CCC will help you through every step of the process. Consider this prep
work so you are ready for the presentations and advising appointments:
1. Think about life after BHS graduation. What do you want to do? Why? What
is important to you? College? Gap Year? Job/Work?
2. Start investigating a few colleges or universities through their
websites, internet, friends, family, trusted adults. Think about the
following factors to name a few:
a. Community College/transfer or 4 year college
b. Size of school
c. Location
d. Field of study/Majors/Careers and the requirements
e. Affordability & Aid
f. Student Life
g. Diversity of staff and students
h. Activities/Extracurriculars/Sports/Music/Theater/Clubs
i. Internships
j. Other factors you think are valuable?
3. Use search sites including:
College Board: bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search
Niche: www.niche.com
College Score Card: collegescorecard.ed.gov
Historically Black Colleges & Universities: www.hbcuconnect.com
Hispanic Serving Colleges: www.hacu.net
College Confidential: https://www.collegeconfidential.com/
You Visit: https://www.youvisit.com/collegesearch/
Campus Reel: https://www.campusreel.org/
4. Keep up strong grades for your cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA),
especially junior year. Had grade issues? Don't give up- show an upward
trend with improved grades!
5. Review your transcript. Got approved classes called a-g classes?
6. Check requirements for the college
7. Need an SAT or ACT test? Look at www.fairtest.org for test blind or test
optional schools. You may not need test scores.
8. Continue commitment to extracurricular activity, sport, club, volunteer
work, hobby, job, family obligations. Or get involved in something outside
of the classroom soon.
9. Apply to ezmealapp.com for free/reduced lunch and test-application fee
waivers.
10. Stay connected with teachers, counselors, CCC, & school email for news
and support.
