WHAT HAVE YOUR DONATIONS FUNDED RECENTLY?
Your giving to BHSDG funds software and teacher professional development to improve the distance-learning experience, Chromebooks, classroom supplies, guest lectures, after-school tutoring, college-application support, and many other activities. Without your donations, the BHS experience would simply not be the same. Highlights of grants funded at our meetings in October and November include these programs benefiting students:
Anti-Racism Professional Development ($6,000). Building on the progress made last year, the San Francisco Coalition for Essential Small Schools (SF-CESS) will help the teacher leader team facilitate a schoolwide program designed to engage teachers in deep and meaningful conversations about the ways in which race and racism manifest themselves in our daily lives, and the impact racial bias and stress can have on our students. This year's goal is to help all teachers reflect on and revise a policy in their classrooms that they believe is having a negative impact on students of color, with a specific focus on Black students. The next phase of this work will reflect on the protocols, norms, routines, and policies of our small learning communities.
10th Grade History Capstone Research Project ($2,862). Your donations will fund a collaborative effort between AC and BIHS to create a new 10th grade capstone research project that takes the best elements of existing Global Studies and World History projects and reconfigures them for distance learning.
Simple Supply Center ($907). This student-led grant enables the school to distribute toiletries and other needed personal items to homeless and low-income students through the existing food distribution program.
CAS Guest Artist ($500). Jurell Cayetano will hold a series of online presentations and Q&As for CAS Computer Art and Drawing (VAPA) students about his art-making process and his journey as a Black artist.
