Dear Berkeley Community,
Below please find a very important message from Dr. Shelley (BUSD Director
of Student Services) regarding a steering committee that will be working on
the task of re-imagining the role of the School Resource Officer (SRO).
Please contact Dr. Shelley, Principal Juan Raygoza, or myself (Dean of
Students) if you are interested in joining this committee.

Best Regards,
Claudia González

*Hello Berkeley Community,*

*The Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) will be engaging in the
process of reimagining the role of the School Resource Officer (SRO) on the
Berkeley High School campus. Part of this process will be the creation of
a steering committee to lead this study effort and to present its
recommendations to the BUSD Governing Board and the Berkeley City
Council.BUSD is reaching out to the diverse Berkeley community to invite
you to participate in this project. The steering committee looks to have
representation from the various stakeholder groups: High school
administrator, School Security Officer (SSO), school Counselor, City of
Berkeley representative, BHS and BTA student representation, parent
representation, and community representation. Members of the steering
committee may participate in facilitating parent, student, and faculty
focus groups, as well as student focus groups. The data collected will
then be examined by the steering committee and used to formulate
recommendations.*

*If you are interested in joining the Re-Imagining the SRO steering
committee or have any questions, please contact Dr. Phillip Shelley by
phone at 510-644-6316 or by email at phillipshelley at berkeley.net. You can
also contact Principal Juan Raygoza at juanraygoza at berkeley.net and Dean of
Students Claudia Gonzalez at claudiagonzalez at berkeley.net. Thank
you.Respectfully,Phillip Shelley, Ed.D.*
