Dear Class of 2022,

I hope you are well during this strange time. Many of you signed up for the PSAT at Berkeley High on Saturday, October 17th. Unfortunately, we must cancel this test administration.  

We take this decision seriously and want to explain how we came to this decision: first the City of Berkeley approved our offering this test based on Covid trends improving; immediately, BHS publicized and opened registration. Next, we got to work planning for staffing, proctoring, and safely opening facilities. Because all three elements have strict guidelines under our current circumstances, we worked very hard to make it work but at this point we know it cannot happen.

[We will provide information about reimbursement for the registration fee in an upcoming e-tree announcement.]

We are tentatively planning to offer the PSAT at BHS on Tuesday, January 26,  2021. We will update you with registration information for that test, if we can safely hold it, soon. 

We also know that many of you are hoping to earn a National Merit Scholarship and want to remind you that there are alternate avenues, included here:

WHAT IF I CANNOT TAKE THE PSAT BUT STILL WANT TO QUALIFY FOR THE National Merit Scholarship Program?
A student who does not take the PSAT/NMSQT in October 2020 or January 2021 because of illness, an emergency, or other extenuating circumstance (including school closures), but meets all other requirements for NMSC program participation, may still be able to enter the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program by submitting scores from an administration of the SAT.
