MCSA'S FIRST MEETING!

The Multi- Cultural Student Association is having their introductory meeting this Thursday at lunch in C135 ( Mr Kaku) and they will be providing a wide range of Costco snacks!

Who is the MCSA?
The Multi- Cultural Student Association works to appreciate/learn about many different cultures, provide a welcoming space for multiracial/ cultural students and to serve the community. 
This year the MCSA is doing a lot of really cool things including organizing a multicultural speaker series and running a College Advising Mentorship Program!
MCSA members and leadership are looking forward to seeing you there!

Interested in becoming part of a regional scholarship organization?
Join the California Scholarship Federation (CSF), an organization that recognizes academic achievement and community service.
Students should pick up an application from the CCC and turn it in by October 4th, 2019.

Interested in Student activism? Come check out Students Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. We meet every other Friday in Ms. V’s  room C221. We advocate for common sense gun control, register students to vote, and work with local organizations. All student athletes interested in trying out for one of our boys soccer teams this winter please make plans to attend our preseason team meeting on Sunday, October 6th at 1:15pm at Sports Basement on Milvia in Berkeley.

9/16-9/21 Roundup: Wow, what a week for Berkeley High Sports!
- Girls field hockey began the week with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Tamalpais. They finished the week 1-1 and are 2-1-2 overall and in 3rd in the MCAL. 
- Football lost a high scoring game on the road, but had several spectacular highlights - check out @bhsjacketsports on Twitter and instagram to see them. 
- Girls tennis swept through the competition, including a tight win against tough conference opponent Castro Valley
- Volleyball beat a very good Castro Valley team on the road and then went 5-1 and took 2nd place in the BHS invitational tourney. Their record now sits at 14-2!! 
- Girls Water Polo remained undefeated after crushing Lick-Wilmerding
- Boys Water Polo is now 14-0 after winning the Vintage High Varsity Boys Polo Tournament this weekend in Napa. Congratulations!
TODAY: Head over to the Donahue Gym to watch Girls Volleyball take on Tennyson (first game at 4:15) and the pool to watch Girls Water Polo take on Marin Academy (first game at 5) 

BHS Students who are interested in getting into shape are invited to attend conditioning sessions weekdays at 4:45pm. The object of these sessions is to improve strength, speed, and power capacity of attendees. Interested students should meet near the North entrance to Jacket stadium between the stadium building and the Donahue Gym. Conditioning will generally last till 6:15pm. 

As part of the celebration of Chicanx Latinx Heritage Month, The Jacket Newspaper's upcoming issue is going to have a page dedicated to art submissions by BHS students who identify as Chicanx or Latinx. These submissions are meant to portray and honor their stories and experiences. 
Submissions can be any form of art that can be printed, that means poetry, drawings, paintings, photos, short writing pieces, all of it!
All submissions should be sent to editor at bhsjacket.com <mailto:editor at bhsjacket.com> by Tuesday 9/24. 

This week: Jackets ROCK the VOTE! PowerCalifornia and Alameda County Registrar of Voters will be on campus during the week of September 23-27 during lunch and after school to do outreach and answer any questions regarding upcoming elections, the new voting system, and provide the opportunity for individuals to register/pre-register to vote if you are 16 and over, You will also learn about opportunities to volunteer within communities as poll workers. If you are 16 and over please know the last four digits of your social security number or have your California ID to register.
